mokina reveals brand new single ‘fool’
Hypnotic and tender, ‘fool’ depicts the blissful, blind beginnings of love flawlessly with its layered meditation and delicate intimacies. Arriving as the first single from mokina’s upcoming debut album ‘Jardim Celeste’ it’s a dreamy dose of indie-folk that's full of texture.
Drawing it’s inspiration from ‘the Fool card of the tarot’, the track captures the moment when a new relationship begins. ‘Fool’ symbolizes the beginnings, innocence, and the leap into the unknown. It's a moment to embrace vulnerability, risk and transformation, just like the card that inspired it.

“fool,” sees mokina reunite with longtime collaborator and producer Jeremy Lachance, continuing a creative partnership that has shaped much of her sound. Together they lean further into atmosphere and repetition, crafting a spell-like arrangement built from layered guitars, soft synth textures, lo-fi drums, and stacked vocal harmonies. Sharing more on the process, mokina shares: “I’m always surprised by what happens when Jeremy and I get in the studio with a two chord progression. The demo of this song was, in my opinion, one of the least convincing of the record and somehow it is coming out as the single. I’m so grateful to be able to work with a team of creatives who bring my ideas to life, both sonically and visually.”
Today’s release marks a new chapter for mokina as she expands the sonic world she established last year with her beautiful, five track EP mirage. The EP was warmly received and saw support from the likes of Under The Radar, tmrw magazine, Colors x Studio, The Line of Best Fit, Ones To Watch and more. Whilst today’s return showcases significant progression, she’s preserved the emotional core that continues to define her work.
Known for blending intricate vocals with lo-fi production and sun-washed melodies, mokina has been making a name for herself since she started independently releasing music in 2018. Originally from Montreal but today based on Portugal’s Atlantic coast, she has cultivated a distinctive style that merges indie-folk intimacy with dreamy pop textures and poetic lyricism. With moments of collaboration expanding her sound, she built an impressive catalog of releases over the last few years.
Pulling from a melting pot of influences including Faye Webster, boygenius, Kate Bollinger, TOLEDO and Alice Phoebe Lou, mokina’s sound is destined to soundtrack your highs and carry you through your lows.
