Indie-rock musician Pedro Giomo shares new single ‘City Lights and Cigarettes’, out today via APOLLO Distribution.
Blending indie pop, dream pop and indie rock influences, “City Lights and Cigarettes” is an atmospheric and nostalgic reflection on growing up and the quiet heartbreak of time passing. Anchored by melancholic textures and a sense of wistful introspection, the track captures the moments we often fail to appreciate until they’re gone.
“‘City Lights and Cigarettes’ is my eulogy for the nights I didn't realise were special at the time,” Pedro explains. “It’s about that jarring moment you look around and realise that the open fields of your childhood have been paved over, and the friends you shared everything with are now people you barely get to see. I wanted to capture the bittersweet reality of growing up, with the ‘bitter grin’ of knowing you can’t go back, yet moving on with life.”
The song was written after Pedro returned to his childhood home in Brazil for several months following graduation. Immersed in a period of reflection, nostalgia and melancholy, he found himself revisiting memories that shaped him and confronting how much had changed. That emotional tension forms the heart of the single.
Recorded at Prague Studios in the Czech Republic, the track was produced, mixed and mastered by Jiří Vidasov, a respected and well-known producer based in Prague. The result is a polished yet emotionally raw soundscape that enhances the song’s reflective tone.
Pedro describes the track as the perfect companion for a late-night drive, the kind of quiet journey home after a long day, when memories resurface and gratitude for the past settles in. Pedro Giomo is a Brazilian born, Czech Republic raised, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter making waves in Prague's indie scene. Singing, playing the guitar and bass, drums and piano, Pedro crafts a distinctive blend of indie rock, alt - rock and shoegaze, merging dreamy guitars and atmospheric textures with heartfelt, introspective lyrics.
