From Hot Ones to our hands, we tried Hell Fire Detroit

As the latest season of First We Feast “Hot Ones” comes to an end

we can’t help to think “Why have we not tried out Detroit’s selected Hell Fire Detroit bottle for ourselves. So of course Taylor had to buy a bottle. If (insert people say they like the sauce from the) like them, she had to try it out for herself. She did tag her brother to be a neutral reviewer who likes hot sauces.

Here how it went: The Good, The Bad, and The Hot

The first smell: It’s a nice rounded smell of habanero peppers. There is only a few ingredients in this bottle. Roasted Habanero peppers, Salt, and Apple cider vinegar. That’s it. You are tasting just smelling just a few key items. The apple cider vinegar peeps in as an after smell but the real power is in the peppers.

The Chicken: We decided to take advice from one of the guest on the show and youtuber Andrew Rea (better known as Binging with Babish) video can be found here. On it’s own without the sauce it was a pleasant surprise, as I am use to the traditional method of the three step bread coating I wasn’t sure how it would taste without the batter.

The Taste: Before we talk about how I almost burned my brother’s mouth and destroyed my upper lip. You should know I didn’t allow any time to cool down the wings as they were pop out of the fryer and into our mouths. I’m fully aware, that I take full responsibility of how that went. I did apologize to my brother after that.

On the first run, it was hot. Like previously mention with the added benefit hot flavoring. That apple cider vinegar I smelt after the hit of pepper, was what first coax me into the battle that was the roasted peppers. The peppers were in full revenge and with the added heat of the wings from the fryer, they were ready for a fight with my stomach. Forget milk or water, ice cubes were the only things that can calm us from the heat. Now, most of our memory of the chicken we endure was washed a bit do to temperature of the wings. Overall, it was a well balanced flavor with the chicken.

So, I made another batch and let this one cool down (as cool as what I would think the Hot Ones interview would be) but since I ruined my brother’s appetite for the wings, it was a solo mission. Hell Fire Detroit, was defiantly how Trevor Noah had mention in the interview. It really did balance the flavors really well. It’s too bad that the bottle is really small as after the two attempts I was already half way through the bottle.

The sauce itself isn’t saucy as it’s more like a thick salsa. Which is great to see in a hot sauce as most look like liquid rage of uncertainty. This sauce fools you into thinking it’s fun but like the slogan “Taste No Evil”, you are not going to taste no bullshit as the ingredients are right there in front of your eyes.

We do hope that they comeback for another season but in the meantime you can pick up a bottle and try for yourself on their website or at few selected Meijers (as we found out while looking for other hot sauce from the show).

We of course look forward to the next product Taylor try out but if you have a suggestion leave it in the comments, or on our socials.
