Hell Fire Detroit back for Round 2 of Hot Ones

“This got bourbon in it? That’s all you have to say“ -The Undertaker

If you haven’t heard the news, Hell Fire Detroit is back on this season of First We Feast interview show “Hot Ones”.

If you have, then you already know what’s about to happen. If you are new, we tried the first hot sauce that Hot Ones feature from Detroit company Hell Fire Detroit. Today is in fact round two and this time a bit boozier I should add.

Like we mention before, This is HFD's second time on First We Feast’s show and this time with a new flavor.

Hell Fire Detroit is on a booze-infused roll that’s delivering hit after hit! Newest to their lineup (and joining Hot Ones Season 13 in the #7 spot) is an oaky bourbon and habanero hot sauce loaded with oaky bourbon barrel flavor! The habaneros are fire roasted and accompanied by smoked ghost chile powder for additional earthiness and sting. Apple cider vinegar and lime juice add acidity for a bold sauce that pairs well with BBQ, baked sweet potatoes, or roasted chicken.

- Heatonist

This bottle is one of three in a booze collection up on the HFD website. There is a Beer as well as a Cabernet sauce in that collection. I happen to have the cabernet already in my collection. When I say you can taste the wine in it, I mean it, as it is the only thing that saving my tongue from the pits of hell. The grapevine is what’s I’m holding on to. I am actually not much of a beer person so, I haven’t tried it out.

Nice, really nice. I feel like the one before, okay wait, it’s kicking in. That kicks in

Before I tell you how I’m going to improve on myself this time around, let’s recap what happens to me during my first time trying HFD hot sauce.

Before we talk about how I almost burned my brother’s mouth and destroyed my upper lip. You should know I didn’t allow any time to cool down the wings as they were pop out of the fryer and into our mouths. I’m fully aware, that I take full responsibility of how that went. I did apologize to my brother after that. So, I made another batch and let this one cool down (as cool as what I would think the Hot Ones interview would be) but since I ruined my brother’s appetite for the wings, it was a solo mission.

I decided to change up how I cook the wings this time around. I’ll be using a combination Airfryer and pressure cooker method. Is it going to work? Not sure, I’ll find out after the first test without any hot sauce. If it doesn’t I’ll be using the double boil method that I did in the first review. Now, unfortunately, due to health reasons and the fact my brother is two hours away from me, I will be doing this again solo. I promise I didn’t put him in a hospital after the review. I’m also going to lightly coat them with the HFD sauce. Pouring a little more each time I toss them in the bowl.

Number 7 (HFD) just got sneaky, We just hit the moment that we neither one of us wants to take a number one.....

Here is how it went: The Taste, The Burn, and The Aftermath

The Smell:

Opening the bottle, I felt that instant remembrance of the heat of the pepper and the vingear. Just like their previous bottles, they like to stick to the natural stuff. The apple cider vinegar is the first ingredient followed by the smokey bourbon right afterward as a kicker. Unlike the wine version, the bourbon creeps up afterward which is a nice balance.

This one is made is purely made to make you feel fire.
— Naomi Campbell

The Taste:

As I’m writing this I’m trying really hard not to open my mouth to allow airflow to make the burn more powerful as it already is. Just like the smell review, the bourbon hits you as it settles down on your tongue and down your throat. It’s as if I took a shot before tasting this. I find that it has settled down for just a bit, the pepper bite isn’t as strong as I thought would, which only makes me want to have another go (and did, like three more bites worth).

Cognac in a bottle, it tastes like straight hot alcohol
— Saweetie

The Aftermath:

At this point, I ended up eating the rest of the chicken wings. Maybe I’m starting to get used to the heat levels, the sauce really makes a great addition to my ever-growing collection. It’s a nice bold flavor and from the website reviews of the bottle, people have been putting this sauce on top of everything including sweet potatoes (Which got me interest). I do prefer the wine version just a bit more for the heat level but that is because it contains Carolina Reapers in it.

If you want to buy all three, you can go through Hell Fire Detroit’s page (Here) but if you just want the bottle that is currently on the show you have to go through Heatonist’s page (here). This is a bummer but you can also take a look at all of the ones that were feature on the show.

Unless stated, all product reviews are purchased by myself. If I don’t like it, I want the able to return it (with the expectation for any food products). I was not gifted nor ask to review any products as of now but if you wish to contact me for inquires please check the about section, thank you.
