Let’s talk about this ballad of an album, Maia (mxmtoon) has. The album is twenty songs with half of them in an acoustic version. Which isn’t a bad idea as there are songs in this album that are truly meant for a acoustic feel but the accompanist of a band and effects are great bonus. With that being said, it’s an overall great introduction to Maia into the music world. Each song is narrated to almost fit you everyday life no matter the age.
In a world filled with sound cloud rappers and manufacture pop, it’s great to see an artist with a more natural sound almost resemblance of a Corinne Bailey Rae and Colbie Caillat. So, of course we are going to talk about some of our favorites but seeing how Prom Dress was a mega hit we will not be adding that in our favorites (It’s still a honorable mention).
Blame Game, Hitting you with that slow motion feel of realization that you are not alone in the situation. The Blame Game is that type that takes playful lyrics with a slow jam melody and destroys your ex’s memories into the ground. Can’t help to listen to this song on the walk back to the car or on a late night run.
Seasonal Depression , This is that type of song that creeps in on you in the most random moments. We have been listening to this album for a while and this song in particular is honestly our go to track to listen to. Think it’s because we relate to this way to easily being in a state where the weather is unpredictable. (Granted, A cup and tea and nap so my most of my problems.) It’s whimsical and a bit up lifting that you can’t help to think that your in a romantic comedy film.
My TED Talk, First we have to mention. that “A single clap from the back row” line is going to get people excited to hear that part in the song. We are not joking and willing to put money on the table that the crowd will clap at that part! This song is a great little fourth wall breaking both from a traditional song point of view and someone who is singing the song. It’s bubbly and both the acoustic version and main version are great.
Maia’s tour starts on the nineteenth in Portland and soon she will be in Detroit a few days shy before Halloween. Tickets are still available, come join us and check her out live on tour.
