NEW YORK – After enchanting fans last summer with his EP “Darling Kiss Louder,” a humor-tinged dedication to modern love and romance, NYC-based singer, songwriter, and producer D.K. Lyons continues to solidify his status as a maker of irresistible pop-rock anthems, returning today with his new summer-ready single “Merry Go Round.” The song is available to stream now on all digital platforms.

Fusing the nostalgia of ‘90s pop-rock with the thematic depth of T.S. Elliot’s epic poem “The Wasteland,” “Merry Go Round” exemplifies the balanced sense of honesty and optimism that the multi-faceted artist so often conveys through his songs. Although melodically upbeat, the lyrics, which include playful references to tarot reading, tap into complex emotional experiences such as doubt and frustration while offering fans a glimmer of hope. It’s true that the only thing that is constant in life is that it is constantly changing, but Lyons assures listeners that the challenging moments do not define us, nor do they last forever; rather, if we can make it through, there is something good waiting for us on the other side.

About his latest release, Lyons shares: “While on the surface the song feels like an upbeat summer anthem, emotionally it’s very classic me in that there are deeper shades of doubt, melancholy and frustration with both my life and the current state of the world, but similar to its counterpart from ‘Darling Kiss Louder,’ ‘It’s A Cruel, Cruel World,’ there is redemption, solace, and acceptance that life truly is just a rotating sequence of events through different contexts vs. a linear rise to a mountain peak.”

“Merry Go Round” is the first single off Lyons’s forthcoming EP “Long Overdue May Lillies,” which is set for release on October 16 and represents a meaningful new chapter in his career. The project will serve as the hope-filled companion to his previous EP “Darling Kiss Louder,” which features the popular single “loveseeking.”

Lyons is preparing to host the third edition of his Gemini Ball, created to celebrate the birthdays of his bandmates, who together form The 714. The show will take place on June 20 at Pianos in New York City and will be co-headlined by NYC alternative pop-rock band Cherry Blue. Fans will be able to enjoy four hours of live music through the night, including an after party, and the event will feature art installations from prominent visual artists, both of whom were recently featured at Burning Man. This year’s iteration also includes a suggested dress code (come as your sign). Band-themed cocktails and custom merch created specifically for the event will be available for sale.

A true feminist and defender of women’s rights, D.K. Lyons approaches music with his heart on his sleeve and keeps connection at the core of his work, all while tackling relatable topics such as love, hope, loss, and fear. He has built his career on one simple mantra: “laugh + dance + cry + repeat.”
