Defiant and compelling, today's new single depicts the complexities of following someone else's blueprint for happiness. Sharing more, they said: ‘Confetti explores the pervasive expectations that come from growing up in a small, conservatively minded town, where marriage was expected young and homophobia was ever-present. I grew up believing love looks a certain way: house, marriage, dogs, kids ... and then realised you were chasing something that was never meant for you.”
Weightless vocals and cinematic production explore how cultural conditioning, especially for people socialised as women, creates a roadmap that leads you away from yourself. They explained: “I found a lot of clarity and inspiration in Dolly Alderton's ‘Everything I Know About Love’. I don’t think I would’ve got married if it hadn’t been for the patriarchy convincing me that was the end goal. There’s still this idea that if a woman’s single, she must be broken.” They reflected.
‘Confetti’ is taken from TYGERMYLK’s upcoming debut album ‘Local Girl, Always Tired’, due for release later this year. The upcoming album is a coming of age record, shaped by their life experiences, resilience and tireless advocacy for LGBTQIA+ rights and disability inclusion. This new chapter marks a bold return to music after undergoing multiple throat surgeries and a battle with chronic illness. You can expect dreamy vocals, indie-pop earworms and nostalgic guitars, all underpinned with courageous honesty.
Based in Hastings, TYGERMYLK (Hayz Harland) is a force to be reckoned with. They have been making waves since they launched in 2018 with ‘What God Would Keep Us Apart’, a track that debuted at Brighton Pride and scooped support from the likes of Scene Magazine and BBC News. An established live performer, TYGERMYLK cut their teeth busking on London’s Southbank for years, harnessing the power of vulnerability and connection. With performances under their belt already including Glastonbury and Isle of Wight festivals plus a live performance on Channel 4’s The Last Leg, they are definitely an artist to keep watching.
