NEW SINGLE “FIGHT!” OUT NOW!
Today, rising alt-electronic artist King Kaye announced his new project, THE DARK SIDE OF ENLIGHTENMENT, arriving this summer on August 26th. The 6-track EP is contrast personified, using the lowest frequencies of ground shaking bass and the highest screams of synthesizers. Using nature and spiritual muses as metaphors, the body of work describes juggling objects of desire with the pursuit of achieving the highest state.
On the EP announcement, the crown shares, “From the descent into quick fixes (sex, drugs, and procrastination) to a whole new lens of self-reflection, ‘The Dark Side of Enlightenment’ is the sound of affirmations and reassurances happening in real time. It’s self-help as sound in the most authentic way possible.”
King Kaye has also released his new single “FIGHT!,” out today. The anthemic track is a call to action for those pushing through adversity – doubling as both a war cry and a soundtrack to survival. Twisting synths and immersive textures slip the listener into another dimension, where they emerge with their armor on, ready to face whatever stands in their way.
“I wrote this song shortly after getting news about the passing of my childhood best friend and my father’s MS diagnosis as a way to vent my aggression,” King Kaye shares about the creation of “FIGHT!” “Sort of a coming of age story; a realization, new threshold of maturity, and a battle with mental health. The story is based around the listener, originally finding different ways to evade conflict, realizing that the only way forward is through. It later became an anthem for my parents when my dad began his rehabilitation process.”
“FIGHT!” joins his previous release “Enlighten Me” on THE DARK SIDE OF ENLIGHTENMENT, both entirely produced, written, and recorded by King Kaye while mixed and mastered by Alex Poeppel (Roger Waters, Lil Nas X, Telescreens) at Kensaltown East NYC. The accompanying black-and-white visual takes inspiration from Tarot’s Major Arcana cards and is deliberately slow-paced, mirroring his search for clarity through the spiritual fog. Since its release, “Enlighten Me” has garnered media attention from Ones To Watch, Grimy Goods, New Scene, NOCTIS, and Noisescapes among others, signaling the arrival of an artist unafraid to turn vulnerability into vision. Both tracks will appear on THE DARK SIDE OF ENLIGHTENMENT.
New York native King Kaye creates genre-blending music using loud synths and ethereal words. A natural born musician, he started spinning records as a DJ at just 9 years old and began making his own instrumentals at age 12. In 2020, he released his quarantine project Nothing But A Pipe Dream featuring “AS THE SUN FALLS,” whose music video premiered on the screen of hometown movie theatre. In 2023, he released The Status Quo featuring the self-produced, recorded, and engineered single “ARE YOU EVEN LISTENING?” Bringing his talents to the stage, King Kaye has already captivated local audiences at The Bowery Electric, Ki Smith Gallery and Baker Falls.
