FOLLOWS FIRST PROJECT SINGLE "MONDAY NIGHTS"
For over two decades, singer/songwriter Rebecca Haviland has been captivating audiences with her powerful vocals and poignant lyrics. Though Haviland is undoubtedly a star, she shines brightest as the fiery frontwoman for Whiskey Heart – comprised of Chris Anderson (Martin Sexton), Kenny Shaw (Dispatch), Todd Caldwell (Crosby, Stills & Nash) and Nicky Barbato.
Together, Haviland and Whiskey Heart are a well-oiled machine, effortlessly blending elements of Roots Rock, Soul, and Americana.
With producer Paul Loren, Rebecca Haviland and Whiskey Heart are currently finalizing their new EP, Late Nights, which is scheduled for release later this year. The first single from Late Nights is “Monday Nights,” which dropped in September. Now, the band has released the EP’s second single, “We All Cry A Little.”
“This is a song about the hardships of choosing a career that has you out on the road, away from your home and family; but you wouldn’t want it any other way,” shares Haviland.
“It’s a song about living this way for so long that you don’t even know what it would be like to do anything else. I liked the idea of juxtaposing the serious theme behind the song with a rock n roll vibe, really portraying the sarcasm behind the lyric, living the dream.”
To produce the video, Haviland worked closely with a videographer who had access to public domain footage. Haviland made a creative choice not to appear in the video.
“I wanted the video to portray both sides of the story,” explains Haviland.
“The first side is about really loving the life of a professional musician and artist, traveling the world, and playing music for a living. The other side of the story is from behind the scenes, where there are often a lot of suppressed emotions like exhaustion, loneliness, fear, and anxiety. I chose not to be in the video as I wanted this video to represent the industry as a whole, not just be reflective of my own personal observations and experiences.”
Rebecca Haviland and Whiskey Heart released their debut album in 2013, and subsequently won awards in the International Songwriting Competition and Unsigned Only Competition. In 2018, they released Bright City Lights, produced by Don DiLego (Jesse Malin, Hollis Brown), which PASTE Magazine praised as “hauntingly beautiful.” The album’s singles, including “Bright City Lights” and “You and I,” received significant attention, with the latter’s video earning an International Songwriting Competition nomination.
In 2019, Rebecca Haviland and Whiskey Heart recorded two live albums at the iconic Sun Studio in Memphis, featuring original songs and covers like John Prine’s “Angel From Montgomery.” Their 2022 holiday album, A Holiday to Remember, released on Five and Dime Records, showcased both classic and original holiday tunes.
Drawing inspiration from icons like Aretha Franklin and Linda Ronstadt and current artists like Brandi Carlile and Jason Isbell, Rebecca Haviland and Whiskey Heart continue to create music that resonates deeply with their fans.
In addition to her work with Whiskey Heart, Haviland has been a touring/session musician and backing vocalist for over 15 years. She has backed artists at Lilith Fair and Bonnaroo, and on Ellen, Good Morning America, and the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. She has toured North America, Europe, Australia, and Japan for several artists including Zayn, Rachel Platten, and Nick Howard. You can catch Rebecca out on tour this Fall playing acoustic guitar and singing backing vocals for multi-platinum selling artist Zayn Malik.
“Being a musician is hard,” admits Haviland. “A lot of people have battle wounds and scars, some physical, like aches and pains from carrying our equipment in and out of clubs for years, some emotional, which can be hard to live with but make for great songs.
"But I absolutely love that I get to keep doing this," she adds. "I can’t wait to hit the road with the band and bring this new music to life in 2025."
