On their new EP, Rebecca Haviland and Whiskey Heart capture listeners with their signature blend of roots rock, soul, and Americana. The EP’s focus single, “Sins,” is a powerful, grungy blues track that highlights Rebecca’s raw vocals and the band’s gritty, NYC-inspired sound. The five song EP Late Nights is the first half of the full-length record to be released in 2025 entitled Late Nights and Early Mornings.
Rebecca Haviland and Whiskey Heart are a well-oiled machine. For more than 20 years, Haviland has been mesmerizing audiences with her powerhouse vocals and poignant lyrics. Haviland is undoubtedly a force, but she is most formidable with her band behind her. Together, they seamlessly blend elements of Roots Rock, Soul, and Americana to create songs that capture the hearts and minds of countless dedicated fans.
Rebecca Haviland and Whiskey Heart have teased us in recent months by releasing “Monday Nights” and “We All Cry a Little,” the first two singles from their highly anticipated new EP, Late Nights. Late Nights is available via all DSPs now.
“All the songs on the EP really have a late-night-in-NYC vibe,” describes Haviland. “I wanted to capture that feeling when the bars start to close, and your glitter eye shadow has started to get all over your face, and your high heels hurt. The songs have attitude and grit and are reflective about the reality of being a lifelong rocker in New York City."
Produced by Paul Loren, Late Nights also features the new single, “Sins,” for which Haviland drew influence from 90’s grunge bands like Eleven and Soundgarden. The song also features elements of blues and soul and uses subtle tape distortion to enhance the vibe.
“I wrote this song almost ten years ago,” shares Haviland. “Back then, it had a very different vibe and didn’t feel right for Whiskey Heart. But I came back to it when we were making this record. I knew there was something special about it. It’s about being addicted to making music and the adrenaline rush you can get while performing on stage. I wrote the post-chorus after Covid. Many of us hadn’t performed in public for so long during Covid that we were nervous to get back up on stage. But the second we got up there and felt the energy of the room, that adrenaline kicked in. It’s the most satisfying feeling in the world.”
The official music video for “Sins,” has a distinct psychedelic vibe, reminiscent of early Queens of the Stone Age. “The video aims to depict the powerful, addictive role that music plays in our lives and the deep sense of withdrawal we all experienced when COVID stripped that connection from us,” explains Haviland. “Ultimately, it conveys the message that, despite the challenges, we must embrace the journey—finding our way back to music after the pandemic and, in doing so, rediscovering a sense of wholeness within ourselves."
Rebecca Haviland and Whiskey Heart released their debut album in 2013, and subsequently won awards in the International Songwriting Competition and Unsigned Only Competition. Whiskey Heart is comprised of Chris Anderson (Martin Sexton), Kenny Shaw (Dispatch), Todd Caldwell (Crosby, Stills & Nash) and Nicky Barbato.
In 2018, the band released Bright City Lights, produced by Don DiLego (Jesse Malin, Hollis Brown), which PASTE Magazine praised as “hauntingly beautiful.” Then, in 2019, they recorded two live albums at the iconic Sun Studio in Memphis, featuring original songs and covers like John Prine’s “Angel From Montgomery.” Their 2022 holiday album, A Holiday to Remember, released on Five and Dime Records, showcased both classic and original holiday tunes.
In addition to her work with Whiskey Heart, Haviland has been a touring/session musician and backing vocalist for over 15 years. She has backed artists at Lilith Fair and Bonnaroo, and on Ellen, Good Morning America, and the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. She has toured North America, Europe, Australia, and Japan for several artists including Rachel Platten and Nick Howard. You can catch Rebecca out on tour this Winter playing acoustic guitar and singing backing vocals for multi-platinum selling artist Zayn Malik.
"I absolutely love that I get to keep doing this," says Haviland. "I can’t wait to hit the road with the band and bring this new music to life in 2025."
