MULTI-PLATINUM 23-YEAR-OLD SONGWRITER EXPERIMENTS WITH GENRES & REVEALS TRUE SELF, EXAMINES PAST LIVES WITH BRAND NEW ALT INDIE SOUND

MERCURIAL HEADLINE TOUR ON SALE NOW

Today, Charley Yang officially unveils his latest artist project chandol with Mercurial, a debut record portraying the kaleidoscope of young adult life with sounds of indie pop, guitar rock, folk music, hyperpop and more. Mixed by Jeremie Inhaber (Vampire Weekend) and features live drum credits from the legendary Aaron Sterling (Harry Styles, Lana Del Rey, Lizzie McAlpine), Charley Yang serves as the main songwriter of Mercurial, making this the young songwriter’s most personal project to date. - Listen here

Mercurial finds chandol wandering inside his own memory palace, navigating multiple past lives while trying to make peace with who he is today. Some highlights include “Breakfast in Bed,” the album’s lead single and a guitar-driven alt rock anthem featuring Yang’s signature confessional songwriting; “2002,” a hyper-pop explosion fully showcasing chandol’s identity behind the mask; “What’s The Rush,” an instant fan-favorite that brews and delivers like an exhilarating summer storm.

Today also saw the release of the music video of “Doubt,” the album’s closer. The instrumentations of this track receive a sizable upgrade from Yang’s GarageBand days: featuring a gradual momentum slowly building through bass-driven rhythm and crisp electric guitar melodies, “Doubt” eventually melts into a rock explosion in the song’s last bridge. The bittersweet, celebratory and exhilarating music video sees chandol embark on a summer road trip with friends, featuring some Easter egg moments (especially if you’re a soccer fan like chandol) - Watch here

On the release of chandol’s debut album, Yang reflected: “‘Mercurial’ is a collection of songs I wrote to talk about who I am and where I come from. For this project, I've kept both the songwriting and production of the music as intimate as possible, with minimal outside interference and influence. There was a lot of experimentation and discomfort in getting so vulnerable, but it was all necessary. I've felt like a lot of my previous work misrepresents the kind of artist I want to be, so it was very refreshing to be able to work on something so honest. This project was something I’ve wanted to create for so long, and finally, I’ve reached a point where I can properly execute it.”

ABOUT CHANDOL

If you achieved everything you’ve dreamed of and more by hiding yourself from the spotlight, would you ever be brave enough to become yourself again?

There’s something almost poetic about the return of Charley Yang as chandol–his new musical project named after his South Korean namesake. Mercurial, chandol’s debut record finds the 23-year-old multi-platinum songwriter wandering inside his own memory palace, navigating multiple past lives while trying to make peace with the person he has become. As a result, the debut project is a kaleidoscope of young adult life filled with sounds of indie pop, guitar rock, folk music, hyperpop and more–just a few musical influences Yang has picked up along the way.

Striking a perfect balance between exhilarating anthems and confessional songwriting, Mercurial is a meditation on disappointments, frustration, bliss, acceptance… And as Charley Yang as it can get. Working with studio legends Jeremie Inhaber and Aaron Sterling, Charley Yang managed to perfect an alt indie sound that puts chandol in the same lane as indie darlings like Malcolm Todd, Dominic Fike, clairo, Omar Apollo and so many more. For the first time ever, the young songwriter gets to be who he is to the fullest extent, free of masked-up constraints and free to embrace all aspects of his identity. With a debut album and his first headline as chandol on the horizon, Charley Yang is ready to break the mold and simply, to become.
