“ A scintillating mix of earnest alt-rock, emo, and melodic punk—defied whatever preconceptions their partnership conjured in my mind.” – Immersive Atlanta
ATLANTA, GA — September 9, 2026 — Today, Scattrbrain, the explosive full-band project from acclaimed Atlanta rapper and songwriter GRIP, releases debut album Scattrbrain & The Unwavering Self Doubt. Across 14 tracks, the album captures GRIP at his most exposed, dismantling ideas of identity, ambition and success while confronting the uncertainty, self-sabotage and destructive cycles that accompanied one of the most turbulent chapters of his life.
Alongside the album’s release, Scattrbrain has announced a run of fall tour dates, bringing the project’s visceral full-band live show to audiences this fall including shows with Ecca Vandal and Bobby Lees. The newly announced dates follow Scattrbrain’s live appearances alongside Ecca Vandal, Portugal The Man and Manchester Orchestra and mark the next chapter for a project built to hit just as hard onstage as it does on record.
Emerging from Atlanta’s hip-hop underground and later signing with Eminem’s Shady Records, GRIP built his reputation on gritty lyricism, sharp social commentary and deeply introspective storytelling. Scattrbrain pushes those instincts into entirely new territory. Created alongside Grouplove bassist Daniel Gleason, producer/engineer T.J. Elias and a cast of Atlanta collaborators, the project channels post-punk, grunge, hardcore and DIY energy into a sound that is loud, cathartic and deliberately difficult to categorize.
Rather than approaching Scattrbrain & The Unwavering Self Doubt as a clean story of reinvention, GRIP uses the album to document the messier reality of trying to understand himself while still in the middle of it. Imposter syndrome collides with ego; false confidence masks fear; melancholy gives way to anger; self-preservation becomes self-sabotage. Substance abuse, nihilism and disillusionment surface throughout the record, but so does a persistent thread of hope.
Of the album, Scattrbrain shares:
“Scattrbrain & The Unwavering Self Doubt is the most honest thing I've ever made. It captures a chapter of my life where I was consumed by uncertainty, questioning every decision, every relationship, every ambition, and even my own identity. Instead of running from those feelings, I wanted to document them exactly as they existed.
“The album became an exercise in tearing myself apart—not out of self-hatred, but out of a desperate need to understand why I kept finding myself in the same destructive cycles. Every song is another layer peeled back in search of the root of the problem, with the hope that once I found it, I could begin rebuilding from something real.
“Throughout the record, you'll hear imposter syndrome fighting with ego, false confidence masking fear, melancholy giving way to anger, self-sabotage disguised as self-preservation, substance abuse as escape, and nihilism whispering that none of it matters. But beneath all of that is a quiet thread of hope. Not the kind that promises everything will work out, but the kind that simply refuses to die.
“This isn't an album about having answers. It's about what it feels like to unravel in real time, to confront the parts of yourself you've spent years avoiding, and to discover that healing begins with brutal honesty. Scattrbrain & The Unwavering Self Doubt is the sound of dismantling who I thought I was so I could become someone more authentic.”
Musically, the album gives that internal unraveling a physical form. Drawing inspiration from the raw intensity of IDLES, the emotional depth of Radiohead, the spirit of Nirvana and the art-punk lineage of Iggy Pop, Wire and Public Image Ltd., GRIP moves between abrasive, melodic and deliberately off-kilter vocal performances against distortion, live drums and jagged guitars.
The album was built as a collaborative effort, with Grouplove bassist Daniel Gleason and producer/engineer T.J. Elias helping GRIP translate the songs and sounds that existed in his head into a lived-in full-band project. Guitarist Mallbangs and Grouplove drummer Benjamin Homola also appear across the record, alongside guest appearances from Kenny Mason on “Buzzworthy,” Grouplove vocalist Hannah Hooper on “Dug A Hole,” Wara From the NBHD on “Crash Out” and Aestrea on album closer “Exit.”
The result is less a departure from GRIP's past than an expansion of what his storytelling can hold. Scattrbrain & The Unwavering Self Doubt doesn't arrive at an easy resolution. Instead, it captures the process of questioning, unraveling and rebuilding while leaving room for the possibility that uncertainty itself can be part of moving forward.
Following live appearances alongside Ecca Vandal, Portugal The Man and Manchester Orchestra, Scattrbrain will continue bringing the album to the stage, including an appearance at Atlanta’s Mainline Music Fest on September 12, with additional tour dates to be announced.
ABOUT SCATTRBRAIN
Scattrbrain is the full-band alter ego of Atlanta-based artist GRIP, the acclaimed rapper and songwriter known for his gritty lyricism, sharp social commentary and raw emotional depth. After emerging from Atlanta’s hip-hop underground and signing with Eminem’s Shady Records, GRIP created Scattrbrain as a new outlet for experimentation, rebellion and reinvention. Created alongside Grouplove bassist Daniel Gleason, producer/engineer T.J. Elias and a cast of Atlanta collaborators, the project draws from post-punk, grunge, hardcore and DIY influences while keeping GRIP’s singular storytelling at its core. The debut album, Scattrbrain & The Unwavering Self Doubt, is a cinematic, cathartic exploration of burnout, identity, addiction, industry disillusionment and self-doubt. It’s not rap with guitars—it’s rage with purpose, built for chaos and catharsis.
