Today, chandol–multi-platinum 23-year-old songwriter, producer–released a surprise EP, and uh, a delicate collection of indie pop jams curated for the fall season. Continuing his new journey as chandol, Charley Yang further dialed in his evolved production styles with and uh, packing indie pop, guitar rock, folk, hyperpop into five standalone singles. Leaning in and offering clear sonic reference to some of his biggest musical inspirations including but not limited to Dominic Fike, and uh features organic production, instrument-forward composition, and the young songwriter’s most mature writing to date.
While chandol's debut record, Mercurial, saw the young artist experiment with a wide array of genres, and uh puts the brakes on with a more concise track list filled with indie pop jams. Nevertheless the project does not lack any surprises: "Check Up" is a kaleidoscope of neurotic sound effects, and as usual, Charley Yang curates yet another perfect bridge in "C'est La Vie"--this time with a tasteful hip-hop twist.

LISTEN TO DEBUT RECORD MERCURIAL
Earlier this year, Yang made his official return to music with his debut full length project under the chandol namesake. The debut record, Mercurial, navigated Yang’s multiple past lives through the sounds of indie pop, guitar rock, folk music, hyperpop and more. Since then, Yang went on his first national headline tour as chandol–joined by his younger brother on the road this time–playing venues including New York City’s Mercury Lounge, Boston’s the Sinclair and Los Angeles’s Troubadour. In September, Ones To Watch premiered a mini tour documentary capturing the tender moments on this tour via their website. ABOUT CHANDOL
If you achieved everything you’ve dreamed of and more by hiding yourself from the spotlight, would you ever be brave enough to become yourself again?
There’s something almost poetic about the return of Charley Yang as chandol–his new musical project named after his South Korean namesake. Mercurial, chandol’s debut record finds the 23-year-old multi-platinum songwriter wandering inside his own memory palace, navigating multiple past lives while trying to make peace with the person he has become. As a result, the debut project is a kaleidoscope of young adult life filled with sounds of indie pop, guitar rock, folk music, hyperpop and more–just a few musical influences Yang has picked up along the way.
The follow-up to Mercurial, and uh initially started as a simple idea of a fall playlist. With the goal of creating a fall-appropriate tracklist in mind, chandol’s latest collection of music is both nostalgically comforting and groundbreaking. While and uh almost feels like a personal autumn vlog in musical form, it finds Charley Yang focusing on production more than ever. Leaning in and offering clear sonic reference to some of his biggest musical inspirations including but not limited to Dominic Fike, and uh features organic production, instrument-forward composition, and the 23-year-old multi-platinum songwriter’s most mature writing to date.
