Lennikim shares anthemic new single 'Gas Station Lover'
Today, Montreal-born polymath Lennikim shares āGas Station Loverā, a sun-soaked, homoerotic pop anthem that marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter.
Channeling his background as an actor into his music, Lennikim has crafted a song that could effortlessly soundtrack the opening scene of a movie.
Inspired by navigating long distance love, the song reflects on his time spent traveling from Canada to America to visit his boyfriend at the time. Lennikim shares more; āMy ex-boyfriend and I were long-distance between Canada and the US for three years. I used to travel back and forth constantly, which is where the Americana imagery comes from. He was older than me and through him I learned a lot about 90s pop culture. That era became a huge inspiration for my current soundā
Lennikim has already been on quite a journey with his sound. Last year saw him treat listeners to his first, independently released, EP āAdrenalineā which was warmly received by the likes of Fault Magazine, Ones To Watch, tmrw mag, Noctis, Metal Magazine and more. This was his first record to be sung in English and it marked a significant shift as he embraced a new found freedom away from the confines of a major label. Releasing independently meant he could not only create the music he wanted to but he could be proudly open about his sexuality.
Lennikim originally rose to fame as a child. He started out in acting age 8 and then singing age 13 where he was quickly recognised as a standout talent. His childhood became a whirlwind of opportunities, earning him everything from a major record deal with Warner France to participating in āDancing with the Starsā and touring across Europe. Sharing more Lenni saidā āBack then, my label wanted me to be the French Justin Bieber. But my teen years were shaped by Lady Gaga and Lana Del Rey. That's what I wanted to make. This new chapter is an homage to those idols, to the pop grandeur, to the escapism, the cinema of it all. The pop ambition. Outside of music Lennikim continues to make waves as his on screen career blossoms. Most recently he has starred in FEM, a Canadian, queer drama on Netflix CA that depicts the journey of Lenniās character Zav as they navigate their transgender identity alongside their music career. Over the years, Lennikim has built a devoted following and fanbase, which continues to build. As he previews this new chapter, fans can expect a deeper dive into both the sound and visual world of Lennikim as we know him today.
