Lennikim shares sultry-bop 'Bad News'
Today Lennikim shares sultry new bop āBad Newsā
Fulled by freedom, Bad News is here as a potent dose of catchy, dark alt-pop.
Reflecting on his early romantic endeavours, Bad News highlights the learning curve of dating the emotionally unavailable. Sharing more behind the track, Lennikim explained: A couple of years ago, when I wrote Bad News, I didnāt have much experience with dating, sex, or romanceāwhich also meant I didnāt know how to avoid shitty situationships. I wrote the song from the perspective of the men I used to date, the ones with intimacy issues, without realising I mightāve had those same struggles myself.
Growing up in the public eye, Iāve come to see how it shaped my personal life for a while, complicating my relationship with intimacy. I chose to laugh about it in Bad News and turn it into a fun pop track you can shake your ass to! It feels like pure joy to me, especially now that I've discovered a whole new sense of freedom in my music as an independent artist.ā
Lennikim has been really coming into his own. He kicked off the new year with beautifully tender āHomesickā back in January. Courageously honest, the release offered a poignant insight into the all too familiar challenges young artists are often faced with in the music industry. Lennikim explained: āHomesickā is an ode to my teenage self, who often felt lost in the industry, craving stability and surrounded by all the wrong people. I was yearning for a sense of home that seemed to grow more distant and harder to reach.
Iām at a totally different place today than when I wrote Homesick. I now have an amazing circle of people who truly match my energy and vibeāpeople I respect and admire.
Lennikim has been on quite a journey and the sound that you hear today is unapologetically his own. Back in November he capped a great year with his powerful single āAdrenalineā which took shape as a punchy and dose of empowering expression. Metal Magazine described it as ādark and broodingā and flagged Lennikim as a āpromising artist to watchā.
Despite being just 23-years old, Lennikim already has a wealth of experience and achievement behind him. Initially starting out in acting age 8 and then singing age 13, his childhood quickly became a whirlwind of opportunities, earning him everything from a major record deal with Warner France to participating in āDancing with the Starsā in France, and touring across Europe.
More recently, upon leaving Warner, Lennikimās journey into songwriting and independent artistry has become a fruitful and significant development. It has given him space to explore and evolve his sound and most importantly of all; express his queer identity publicly, after he was forced to hide it for a long time within the industry. Another highlight of 2024 was performing at Montreal Pride, an incredible moment that a younger, closeted Lennikim would have found hard to believe!
Bad News is the final single to arrive ahead of Lennikim's upcoming EP due for release later this year. It will be his first independently released project and his first EP to be written and sung in English. The release will take shape as a collection of work completely free from the heavy expectations that accompany child stardom. Expect gritty, edgy bops, met with raw moments of vulnerability, culminating in a dynamic body of work that is proudly and entirely his own.
Over the years, Lennikim has built a devoted following and fanbase, which continues to grow in real-time. With millions of views on Youtube and close to 100 million streams across DSPās, itās wild to think heās just getting started! Not to mention, he was awarded Video of the Year at the 2023 Canadian Sym Awards for "Things I Want" - also taken from his upcoming EP.
With a lot more around the corner, keep all eyes on Lennikim.
