Introducing: LEDI & her debut EP ‘She’s 24’
London-based Indonesian-talent LEDI reveals her captivating debut EP ‘She’s 24’. Arriving with two previously un-released singles 'Nothing New Under The Sun’ and ‘Who I Was’, the new EP is an exquisite first look into LEDI’s sound, style and talent.
Based in London, LEDI has nurtured a sound that gives nods to R&B/Soul, Bossa nova and Pop, all unmistakably tinged in her Jazz background. The record stands out as a timeless and enticing release that pulls inspiration from the highs and lows of navigating life in her mid 20’s.
The record's focus single ‘Nothing New Under The Sun’ is produced by fellow-jazz infused artist James Berkeley. The track sees LEDI lend her distinctive, heavenly vocals to matters of the heart. It touches on that familiar feeling of unease that often goes hand in hand with a blossoming romance.
Sharing more, LEDI explained; ‘I was seeing someone and I had this familiar feeling from the start that it wasn’t going to last and it really affected me as I’d been through it before. This fleeting love, the bittersweetness of excitement and potential heartbreak. I was really anxious about the situation. Nothing new under the sun is originally a biblical phrase, it's saying that ‘things that happen, they have happened before, and they will happen again’.
It’s a reminder that it's all just part of life's cycle and eventually we may well go our separate ways’.
When I'm sad, I really feed into it and I listen to sad songs. My best songs seem to be born from sadness.”
Also brand-new today is the EP’s opener; ‘Who I Was’. The track is a dreamy display of LEDI’s storytelling ability and effortless alto vocals. It may surprise listeners to learn that ‘Who I Was’ is the first complete song that LEDI ever wrote. The track symbolized a fresh start as her inspiration came from seeing an ex for the first time since they broke up.
Sharing more, she said: “I remember thinking that a part of me was uncomfortable seeing him because I didn't like the version of myself I became when I was with him. Ever since I wrote it, I've been on this journey of healing and finding myself. The EP as a whole is inspired by my mid-twenties, the journey I’ve been on and how I have grown as a person.’
‘She’s 24’, the EP’s title track, arrived back in August and is a shimmering moment of gentle euphoria. Symbolizing some of the high moments in her coming of age years, the track is a gorgeous reminder to cherish the highs anytime to get the chance.
The broad fusion of genres across the EP demonstrates LEDI’s authentic passion for music, resulting in a diverse style that defies categorization.
Despite only launching in 2023, LEDI has already grown a reputation for her evocative songwriting and effortlessly smooth vocals.
With a sound that translates effortlessly live, she’s already headlined a show in her hometown of Jakarta as well as performing at London's Iconic Royal Opera House. In January she will be celebrating the release of her new EP with a headline show on the 29th at The Forge at The Lower Third in collaboration with Global Soul.
Pulling inspiration from the likes of Laufey, Stevie Wonder, Olivia Dean and Bossa Nova greats such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, LEDI brings a fresh new voice to the UK music scene, proudly representing Indonesian talent on the international stage.
