A story of following the beat of your heart as a route of escape is told through hotly-tipped Liverpool indie-talesmiths, Keyside’s latest single, Rhianna, Please Don’t Cry – OUT NOW. Pulling off breathtaking displays of intricate, jangle-riffed indie pop one song after the other, the breezy opus belies troubled stories from behind closed doors, pulling at threads of modern social ills beneath the crystalline notes of instant-classic modern Merseybeat.

Celebrating a release day hometown show supporting of repeated chart-toppers, Blossoms at Liverpool’s Mountford Hall (Fri 25 October), Keyside continue to ride a wave that swelled earlier this year with their ‘radio hit’, Nikita. Announcing a new EP for early 2025, with leading indie label, Modern Sky, by releasing September’s gleaming late-summer special, Runaway, the band successfully set more hares running with support from BBC 6 Music, Radio X and uninhibited approval from key, taste making critics.

With a pervading sense of confinement, of living in the shadow of hurt and feeling boxed-in by urban solitude, Keyside’s lead singer-songwriter Dan Parker develops Rhianna, Please Don’t Cry’s character study beneath glittering chandeliers of melody. With every chord, hook and steadfast beat, the four-piece write rainbows over the same rain-soaked, North-Western streets of The Smiths, The La’s, The Coral and Blossoms themselves.

Parker says of the single: “This one’s about being young and wanting to escape from real life into something better in the company of someone new. Daydreaming of a time and place that’s better than this one."

Beautifully becoming the sum of their parts, the starting points for Keyside’s musical creativity are gathered from the diverse influences of all four members, including Ben Cassidy (lead guitar), Max Gibson (bass and backing vocals) and Oisin McAvoy (drums). Just as at ease quoting The Police as they are Fontaines DC, the breadth of their influences has been condensed in the studio by renowned producer, Chris Taylor (Courteeners, Blossoms) in their home city’s Kempston Street Studios.

Outside the studio and on stage, Keyside look ahead to more shows around the UK, yet close out an eventful 2024 with appearances in and around Liverpool itself. Whilst 2025 will see them announcing a new headliner and advancing on previous months’ festival appearances, including YNOT, On The Waterfront and Sound City, and past support slots with Seb Lowe, Shed Seven and Jamie Webster, Keyside’s remaining, upcoming shows for this year are as follows:

  • Fri 25 Oct 2024 – Liverpool, Mountford Hall w/Blossoms

  • Sun 10 Nov 2024 – Liverpool, Favourite Days Festival

  • Tue 19 – Wed 20 Nov 2024 - Liverpool, O2 Academy w/Royston Club
