Indie-electronic artist and songwriter Evalyn returns with her new single “Nightmare.” Out This Friday! Dark and hypnotic, “Nightmare” pairs glittering production and thunderous percussion with Evalyn’s talent for writing undeniable dance hooks as she crafts a story of toxic love that feels too good to give up. “Nightmare” is the lead single off of Evalyn’s upcoming album Salvation (Digital Deluxe), a 5th-anniversary re-release of Evalyn’s debut album, which arrives on December 15th.
“Nightmare” opens with sensuous, atmospheric synths, drawing listeners into the alluring fantasy world of Evalyn’s obsession. Joined by a mesmerizing bass and Evalyn’s husky vocals, the track builds with a simmering intensity before exploding into the anthemic chorus. Evalyn gives over completely to Limerence as she sings, “Never was easy / baby, believe me, / we’ll watch it all go up in flames / if it’s a nightmare / I’mma be right there / cuz with you it’s all a dream.”
In addition to “Nightmare,” Salvation (Digital Deluxe) will include three additional new tracks. “Big Bad City (It All Goes Fast Edit)” is a sped-up version of the 2018 hit single, drawing from the lyric “We’ve got Jesus on the dash / it all goes fast when you’re kids in the big bad city.” Evalyn creates a stripped-down version of the original on “Crème de la crème (Re-Imagined),” allowing the track’s earnest lyricism to shine. An ode to integrity over conformity, Evalyn sings, “I’ve been seeing saints holding hands / and my God is trans / and everyone feels alive / and I like to do what’s in vogue / not what I’ve been told/cross my heart and hope to die.” The final new offering, “A Pill To Crush (Re-Imagined),” gets a production overhaul, trading indie-rock guitars for swirling synths and celestial vibes.
Her 2018 debut album Salvation built Evalyn a core fan base made up of predominantly queer and female fans who resonated with Evalyn’s message of female empowerment, inclusivity, mental health awareness, and sustainability. With the re-release of Salvation (Digital Deluxe) Evalyn wanted to refresh and revisit the treasured project in honor of her fans that have supported her through every phase of her musical journey.
