We had the chance to chat with Emily Wolfe about her latest album "The Blowback" as well as talk to her about upcoming tours and a second collaboration with Epiphone/Gibson guitars.
The new 10-track album marks a change in Emily’s songwriting; on previous records, Emily wrote mostly about love, break-ups, and sex, but The Blowback focuses on political issues such as abortion rights in “Walk In My Shoes”, the fallout from sexual assault in “Silencer”, and themes that have not been present in her previous releases.
Sonically, the new album takes elements from alternative and indie rock, with some punk added in exemplifying the rebellious spirit of the record. Emily’s guitar playing is the focal point of The Blowback, with catchy and impressive riffs throughout highlighting her powerful vocals and emotional lyrics. Emily says, “This album is aggressive, pushes the boundaries on things I want to say.”
The Blowback LP is self-produced, marking her intentional and inaugural venture into being behind the board. Emily says, “I needed to produce this collection of songs because I knew that I was the only one who was gonna get it right. It was like a calling to honor the songs, make them mine and get it done in the exact way I envisioned it.”
She continues, “The experiences that I went through last year, the political stuff, and the personal traumatic events… No one else went through that but me, my bass player Evan, and my wife. I couldn't give these songs to anyone else.”
Emily has steadily toured throughout 2023 and has a full slate of upcoming dates including a West Coast tour with Black Joe Louis and a European tour supporting Gaslight Anthem in the early part of 2024 (tour dates below). Emily has opened for artists ranging from Heart to iconic metal band, TOOL led by Maynard James Keenan who chose her specifically to open for them earlier this month.
Emily is widely celebrated for her guitar playing with two signature guitars created with Epiphone/Gibson. The newest addition to the Emily Wolfe signature guitar line, is the White Wolfe which was announced earlier this summer which joins the Sheraton Stealth, Emily Wolfe guitar released in 2021.
