Ghostly and Vans : Celebrating 20 years of music

Lately, if you haven’t been paying attention.

It’s Ghostly Records the 20th anniversary and they have been pulling out all of the stops to let everyone know it. Of course, Taylor missed out on the first round of collaborations with the white cartoon rabbit that is Miffy (Artist Dick Bruna), so she wasn’t going to miss out on the next collaboration; Which just so happen to be a certain shoe company that Taylor has been a fan of for quite some time.

Not only are they celebrating via collabs with clothing/shoe companies, but they are also featuring their favorite artist in a mini-tour across the states hitting places like Los Angeles, Brooklyn, Chicago, and Detroit. You can see the list here along with where to purchase the tickets. The Detroit show will take place at the TV Lounge, on November 11th. This will be the last stop of their 20th-anniversary tour and will feature Matthew Dear, Galcher Lustwerk, Lauren Flax, JTC, and Osborne. Tickets for that show will be found here.

So, if you are new to Ghostly Records (welcome, hi.). Here is a little about them according to their about section on their website (B+ research at my finest).

Ghostly International has grown from a boutique known for its experimental-pop and techno acumen into an internationally recognized multicultural platform representing some of the world’s best visual artists, designers, technologists, and musicians. Artists include Matthew Dear, Kllo, Mary Lattimore, Tadd Mullinix (Dabrye, JTC),Phantogram, Starchild & The New Romantic, Tycho, and more. Like they mention in there about section “Ghostly International is a music and art company supporting work of high quality, integrity, and individuality.”

Let's jump right into the slideshow of Taylor's pursuit of being an Hypebeast. So we are in Ann Arbor, totally not because Taylor's is from there and didn't want to travel down to Detroit (It's hard trying to be a "Hypebeast" on a budget) but it's also where the record label started (Remember that B+ research?) between Sam Valenti IV and Matthew Dear. It is also where SHIEGETO is from, who is one of the Ghostly’s Artist rack of talented artist. He is also the one that is featured in the collaboration with Vans. SHIEGETO whose real name is Zach Saginaw is a techno artist with heavy influence with Motown and Jazz artist. You can take a listen to his work right now.

Let’s talk about the collab with Vans. Ghostly and Vans teamed up to make two shoes both alike and both slightly different. Both sneakers are set to a monochromatic theme with a purple sock liner. The White Slip-Ons features a black foxing stripe while it’s dark side features a rubber midsole. They both featured a 3M gloss printing Ghostly Ghost logo throughout the shoe, their logo on the tag as well as the inside the shoe base insole. Now for the opinion circle where Taylor will talk about the shoe and Ghostly records.

I picked the hi-tops purely because I’m not a slip-on shoe person. The shoe is adorable and something that caught the eyes of a lot of people, which I should note that it’s October making it spooky season. So, first thing first. I had to ask how to get the reflected ghost pattern to work on the camera. Instagram Stories and Tik Tok videos were no help to me. I’m not a one with the camera flash feature on phones. Blame it on the rules of photographing concerts embedded in my brain. The first artist that I was introduced to from the Ghostly family was GoldPanda. I remember that I heard his song “You” from a Tumblr playlist post, it had to be nine-ish years ago. From GoldPanda it was Matthew Dear through my interest in the rock group Interpol. Overall, this was such a great collab that I cannot wait to see what’s the next 20 years are going to look like.

If you got the chance to nab a pair of these shoes, we want to know what you think of them! In the comments, on our social and everything in between. We would like to give a big thanks to the following shops that allow Taylor to take off her shoes to photograph them. Wazo & Underground Records, and Pinball Petes Arcade. Now it is time to tell you that we are not sponsored or gifted with these items. Taylor purchased them and really needed to showcase them. If you want to check out the last purchase she made (which was the Urbanear Tove Lo edition headphones) you can check it out here.
