If you guys are not familiar, we are actually a big fan of the Urbanear platform. Their headphones and speakers (though we have never tried it out yet) are a fantastic way to enjoy music. We actually featured them before back when we were just a Tumblr page (remember the good days of Tumblr?). Let’s do a recap before we get going on with the Tove Lo version. This pair of headphones has gone through two generations with some ups and downs. Here was Taylor’s thoughts were to the last pair.

What were the problems with the first generation? The problems mostly occur around the piece that connects with the speaker to the headband of the headset. The piece was plastic and can break easily if you have an umm..slightly abnormal head or just like to pull the headphones in an outward style. This was the one down the downsides to this first gen. Another was problem was the easy to navigate touch sensors to change music. It was too sensitive and would switch or pause the music with the slight brush of a shoulder. Besides those problems, they were a very reliable headphone. I would end up buying two more before I would get my hands on the second gen.

What do you think of the second gen? At first glance, I was relieved they replace the plastic for a wire connection. The fears of dropping it and seeing the plastic fly off are no longer in my thought bubble. One of the odd plus sides with the first gen was the removable patting for accessible cleaning. Granted most of the time it was a struggle to get it back on but I like that ability.  In this gen, you don’t get that luxury which is a bummer since I bought the white version (shame on me for getting white, I know).

Another thing I noticed was that they remove the touch sensors; replacing it with a joystick on the back of the right earpiece. Pretty easy to control with the basic gaming experience. (Foward = next song, Backwards = Previous song, Up = Volume up, Down = Volume Down) Along with that, they had replaced the standard Micro USB Port with a Micro USB C port.

How is the sound? In gen one, I notice you can raise the volume up slightly louder than the device it is attached to. That’s not the case for this gen, I find myself wishing to raise the volume. This could be a just old habit but there have been moments where I wish the volume was up just a little more than usual.  These moments would be in more of a public like for example the streets of Chicago. With that being said, the sound quality has dramatically improved since the first gen.

So what’s the problem? The problem is actually one of the problems I miss in the first gen. The controlling feature. I thought I would like the new joystick feature but after a small drop of the headphones the joystick pop out of it set and I can no longer press backward to retreat back to a song nor lower the volume. As much as I didn’t like the super high sensory, I would rather have that feature back.

Overall these headphones were a repeat buy, as not showcase by example when the launch of the Tove Lo version was release. A music photographer, and avid music fan, this pair diffidently spark the interest of Taylor. As advertise on the Urbanear’s mainsite:

What started as a conversation on the power of self-expression manifested into this one-of-a-kind edition of the iconic Plattan 2 Bluetooth, co-created with the Swedish pop artist Tove Lo. Each pair is ready to go with a glitter-ized headband and iridescent rainbow ear caps. An invitation to shut out the world and lose yourself in your music.

A special iridescent coating leaves every pair with a unique rainbow finish, that of course means it will almost feel one of a kind. All this and the standard of the original Plattan 2 headphones has to offer was enough to get a purchase. Now because this is a limited edition, there is a few added pieces like a small black cloth to clean and a little note from Tove Lo in every box. There are somethings to note, if you own another pair of Urbanears please label them differently as they say the same name. They are simple to connect via Bluetooth or to share with another person who has traditional earbuds.

Now it is the time to tell you that we are not sponsored or gifted with these items. Taylor purchased them and really needed to showcase them.

These headphones and everything else can be purchase on the Urbanears.com Of course we love them but do you? let us know in the comments or on the socials. Instagram Twitter Facebook or here!
