NEW YORK, NY – May, 2026 – Persian alt-pop artist Asal has released her highly-anticipated new album Kiss the Sun ahead of her European headline tour and the recently announced U.S. dates coming this fall (more info below). Written and entirely self-recorded over the past year, Kiss the Sun captures the Iranian-born, Vancouver-based artist in a deeply vulnerable new chapter following profound personal loss. PRESS HERE to listen to the collection.
Across the album, she turns grief, forgiveness, longing and self-discovery into cinematic, intimate songs that move between melancholia and euphoria: “not fully happy, not fully sad,” as she describes it. Shaped in part by her discovery of pre-revolution Iranian psychedelic rock, the project blends atmospheric production with emotionally direct songwriting, evoking shifting light from sunrise to sunset. At its core, Kiss the Sun is an exploration of nostalgia, love, and acceptance with loss, especially the death of her father, becoming a lens for reflection, understanding and release.
“My dad is a big inspiration to me when it comes to music, and unfortunately I lost him last year,” said Asal. “I made all these songs after the event, trying to learn and let go, the ups and downs of it: how I came to understand him fully, and not be mad at him anymore. Kiss the Sun is for him. Mersi Baba.”
In support of the release, Asal will embark on a series of select U.S. headline dates this fall, bringing the album’s emotional intensity and immersive atmosphere to stages across the country including Thalia Hall in Chicago, New York City’s Irving Plaza and The Regent Theatre in Los Angeles. Tickets are available now, and the full routing can be found below. In tandem with the release, Asal will tour Europe (with most dates almost sold-out). PRESS HERE for tickets and more information.
