LOLA BATES LEANS INTO TEMPTATION ON NEW SINGLE ‘MADONNA GOLD’
SECOND SINGLE FROM HER FORTHCOMING DEBUT ALBUM
LOVE AND POWER VIA GRAVEL & ECHO RECORDINGS
DISTRIBUTED BY VIRGIN MUSIC GROUP
[LOS ANGELES, CA] – Multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, and vocalist Lola Bates returns with her new single, ‘Madonna Gold’, available now across all major streaming and digital platforms. Serving as the second release from her forthcoming debut album Love and Power, the track deepens Bates’ exploration of intimacy, power, and self-discovery, arriving via Gravel & Echo Recordings, distributed by Virgin Music Group.
Sensual and slow-burning, ‘Madonna Gold’ is a meditation on the blurred lines between love, lust, and emotional connection. Written at her upright piano in her Laurel Canyon studio, the track evolved into a richly layered, atmospheric record, drawing inspiration from PJ Harvey and The Stone Roses. Bates crafted the song herself, joined by electric guitar from renowned composer Tyler Bates and drums by Puma of Sunday (1994), co-produced with Maxwell Joseph and mixed by award-winning engineer Robert Carranza.
“Producing Madonna Gold was such an incredibly fun and rewarding experience. The song flowed like water and came together effortlessly, pushing me to elevate both my songwriting and production skills to a new level,” says Bates. “In today’s current climate of over-sexualized media and instant, virtual access to pleasure and intimacy, this song serves as a raw unfiltered confession from a young woman navigating her own sexuality. The lyrics unpack the blurred lines between love and lust, desire and connection, capturing the complexity of trying to understand intimacy in a world that both amplifies and distorts it.”
Anchored by a hypnotic groove and an unforgettable chorus, the track pulls listeners into a world where desire feels magnetic and inescapable. The release follows Bates’ debut single 'Girl’s Girl', a dark introduction to Love and Power that explored themes of loyalty, morality, and romantic complexity, offering the first glimpse into the project’s emotional depth.
'Madonna Gold' continues to expand that sonic and thematic landscape, capturing Bates stepping fully into her voice as a writer, producer, and artist. Listen and download HERE.
About Lola Bates
Lola Bates is not your traditional singer songwriter. Raised in the hills of Laurel Canyon, her musical roots connect deeply to nature, vinyl, and the historic - lady of the canyon - Joni Mitchell, as well as other female rock and pop icons Kate Bush, Tori Amos and PJ Harvey to name a few. Bates is a classically trained pianist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, who weaves lush vocal harmonies throughout pop, rock, and folk arrangements in her original songs - all showcased on her upcoming debut LP, 'Love and Power'. Along with writing, producing and arranging her own records and performing the majority of the instruments on her songs, Lola works as an art and video director, and producer, on her music videos and album visuals.
At the age of 24, she has already had a prolific career. In 2022, Bates and her band toured in support of Jerry Cantrell (Alice in Chains) Brighten Tour, and then joined Cantrell’s band as keyboardist, backup vocalist and acoustic guitarist, for Cantrell’s world tour in support of his albums ‘Brighten’ and ‘I Want Blood'. Furthering her career as an international touring musician, Bates then joined emerging pop band, Sunday (1994) on bass, for their supporting and headlining tours in 2024/2025.
At age 12, Bates performed the piano work for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 at Capitol Records Studios, followed by her work with the London Symphony Orchestra as the solo pianist for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, at age 15, recorded in Studio One at Abbey Road studios. Her vocal chops can be heard on Jerry Cantrell’s Brighten album, Adult Swim's animated TV show Genndy Tartakovsky’s PRIMAL and CBS Tracker. Lola’s performance of Martha and the Vandellas’ 'Nowhere to Run' was featured in John Wick: Chapter 4, and her ethereal vocals for the film’s score and soundtrack album are examples of her seasoned musical chops and ability to transcend emotion in the context of storytelling.
With her wealth of experience and unique background as a writer and performer, Lola Bates will be showcasing her artistry and taking ‘Love and Power’ to stages everywhere in 2026.
