Splitting Edges return with new EP 'Only Words'
Today, London-based Splitting Edges reveal their sophomore EP ‘Only Words’.
The six track offering arrives as a significant moment as Splitting Edges establish themself as an impressive guitar band to watch. Earlier this week they shared an energetic dose of fast paced alt-indie with new single ‘The Chase’, which Clash Magazine described as ‘rollicking guitar pop thriller’ and described it as ‘a sign of the band’s passion for immediacy.’
Alongside the release on Wednesday, the band also shared a live video, showcasing their electrifying performance style and building anticipation for their EP launch show at The Star in Shoreditch later tonight (18/07/25).
‘Only Words’ is an enticing look into the expansive world of Splitting Edges. Exploring themes of love, lust, luck, pubs, anger, and grief, their fanbase continues to grow, drawn in by the raw relatability of their lyrics. Sharing more, they said: ‘Words are never ‘only words.’ They carry everything. These songs explore the stuff we say, the stuff we don’t and the way life can both connect and destroy us. They’re like masks. They sound catchy or sexy or romantic, but there’s always something darker or truer underneath.’
Proudly hard to box, Splitting Edges represent a homebrew of gritty vocals, catchy indie melodies, and jazz-infused rhythms, their multidimensional sound has been turning heads since they formed in 2019.
Founded by Lydon Peacock (singer/songwriter) and Bradley Osborn (drummer), the band found their missing piece in lead guitarist Nathan Cannon — completing the core lineup. Whilst already managing to crack the code as a three piece, the group continues to keep the door open to collaboration, having worked with a range of talented rappers and instrumentalists to expand and diversify their sound even further.
Citing influences like Jamie T, King Krule, Puma Blue, Amy Winehouse, and Johnny Cash, the band has crafted a sound that resists easy comparisons. With a live show that’s fast becoming a defining force behind their momentum, this release is your sign to keep a close eye on Splitting Edges.
