June 21, 2021 – Los Angeles, CA - Today, emerging dance and electronic sensation, Riovaz, is starting a new era within his musical career, kicking off with his new single and video, “Lavender Town” out now via Darkroom/ Geffen Records. The single and music video seamlessly swerves through his signature sounds of atmospheric drum & bass, pop, rap, electronic sounds and synths creating an epic anthem showcasing his entry into a new era of music.

Within this track, Riovaz taps into nostalgia through a dark lens. The single is named after a haunted village in the original Pokémon video games, inhabited by Ghost-type Pokémon and a Pokémon burial ground. It’s also his stormy state of mind, a funeral for a failed relationship.

About Riovaz:

Riovaz’s music deftly captures the frenetic, unpredictable energy of growing up. Influenced by the post-punk and rave worlds, the 20-year-old’s genre-blurring, cutting-edge pop songs are both emotionally rich and dizzyingly varied. So it’s fitting that the New Jersey native named his debut EP Disturb the Norm. Released in 2023, it’s a crash course in Riovaz 101, swerving through atmospheric drum & bass, hypnotic deep house, ripping screamo, and orchestral spoken word as he dissects angst and heartbreak with throat-catching honesty. His frequent shapeshifting and refusal to be boxed in aren’t as much intentions as they are simply a way of life. Growing up in Jersey City, Riovaz knew at five years old that he wanted to be a musician. By 13, he was making his own songs for fun. When he uploaded his first song to SoundCloud, it earned over 60k streams, prompting him to get serious and post regularly. In 2020, Riovaz shared “Prom Night,” a lovesick song on which he sings of feeling like death over lilting bedroom pop arrangements. After signing with Darkroom, Riovaz released Disturb the Norm at the top of 2023, which garnered praise from several outlets including NME, Office Magazine, a spot on Billboard’s “21 Under 21” list and more. Another EP, GORE, followed. Described as “run-and-gun” in its creation, the viscerally-titled EP uses twinkling and textured electronics as a background for Riovaz to explore the emotional carnage of relationships. Though he still navigates the growing pains of life and love on his upcoming album, he does so being aware of his flaws, owning up to his mistakes, and remaining achingly real. When Riovaz hears his fans singing his songs back to him, he’s reminded of how many lives he can touch. “This is my calling,” he defiantly declares. “There's no way I’m doing anything else.”
