Over the past six years, indie trio Soft Blue Shimmer have been creating music able to transcend genre definitions. Today, the band announces its third album, They Will Leave Us With Nothing, set for release February 28th, 2024 on Other People Records. Recording with long-time collaborator Corey Coffman (Gleemer), Soft Blue Shimmer approached writing in a new way, with synth or bass first, and guitar second. Chopped up guitar and vocal tracks lend to layers of noise and droning ambience that serve as the foundation in the band’s newfound direction and musical freedom.

Soft Blue Shimmer shares:

“They Will Leave Us With Nothing is one of the most honest and open things we’ve made. We really tried to do what made us happy and what excited us while never losing sight of the emotional core of the album and the necessary message of the songs.”

The first of the nine songs from the album to arrive in the world is “FREQUENCY HAMMER.” The dreamy track is based around an electronic drum and synthesizers with vocalist Meredith Ramond focusing on phrase repetition, vocalizations, and talking. The futuristic undertone plays against socially focused lyrics.

As the band expands:

“We wanted to open this album with a directive. This is one of the most social songs, being about feelings between two people and the liminal space those feelings exist in: wanting intensity and wanting numbness. It’s calling out the human desire for closeness and the fact that we were made to live in community but often end up in loneliness.

Much of They Will Leave Us With Nothing is about capitalist and social pressures and their immediate effects on us. ‘Frequency Hammer’ bridges the gap between our previous albums, which were very much about the symptoms of living in a nation that doesn’t care for our physical or mental health, our communities or safety, and this album calls those things into question by identifying what the billionaire and political ruling classes would leave us with if they could: nothing.”

You can listen to “FREQUENCY HAMMER” HERE and They Will Leave Us With Nothing is available for preorder now through Other People Records.

Starting October 8th, Soft Blue Shimmer will support Touche Amore, Soul Glo and Portrayal of Guilt on a US tour. The band’s bright sound and ethereal live show will lead audiences into the tour packages heavier sounds.
