“Dreamy,” “evocative,” “luscious,” “ethereal,” “calming,” “gorgeously soothing,” and “easy and breezy,” are just a few of the adjectives that have been used to describe Venus’ latest single releases. Now with the release of her long-awaited debut EP Things Change, Venus is poised to win over even more music lovers. While her vocal talents can’t be denied, it’s equally as impressive that every word and note heard on the project is a result of Venus herself.
“Cheers to flowing with time, change, and everything in between” Venus shares. “Hope this helps.”
Things Change follows a number of single releases, most recently “Run Away,” which is included here on the EP. The title track “Things Change” was highlighted as a “Today’s Top Tune” by Los Angeles’ KCRW (here) and was also recognized by Ones To Watch who wrote: “It’s difficult not to be transported by the beauty of the song. The luscious vocals and calming tempo create an ethereal vibe check that feels like you are in the presence of a goddess, reassuring you lyrically and spiritually. While we can’t fight the momentum of time passing, one thing you can change is giving this artist a listen and enjoy the best sonic fortune coming from Fontana in some time.”
Other highlights on the EP include “OMFG,” a song about the tug of war between yourself and your “shadow” self, the side of you that holds your bad habits, insecurities, and vices. “Time To Go!,” a softer indie folk acoustic track, was written to help soothe the feelings of fear when something inside of you is telling you it’s time to leave a place or person that does not serve you anymore. When you hear the calling, that’s when you know, time to go.
The set closes out with “Odds and Ends,” a moment of closure about moving forward. It’s about moving on, but being unable to forget the little things. It’s about seeing old friends in new faces, entering new seasons of change, visiting old places and spaces, and remembering the little things in each moment. It is a reminder that although it may be painful now, we can’t go back in time; forward is the only way to go.
Elsewhere, the previously released standalone single “If (This is Love)” had Sweety High raving “...with just one track, her dreamy and evocative vocals have us completely transfixed...we cannot wait to hear what else it has to offer.”
Following years of self-discovery, refining her sound, and a collaborative EP release with her group Ahmore which was publicly recognized by Uproxx “Best New R&B,” Fusicology and more, Venus is embarking on a new chapter. Drawing inspiration from her vastly diverse musical tastes, Venus writes, records, and produces within the walls of her home. She has a soft spot for writing soothing, infectious music and relatable narratives. A singer, songwriter, instrumentalist and producer, she combines these strengths into an undeniable dreamlike fusion of indie/alternative, pop, and new wave. For Venus, music is meant to be a “soundtrack to the stories of our lives.”
Venus sat down in studio with CBS Los Angeles’ The Morning Wrap to discuss her music and creative process; watch here.
In addition to her original pieces garnering high praise, the singer-songwriter-instrumentalist has gained admiring fans for her unique and captivating covers of popular pop songs. Venus recently shared a short clip of her version of Billie Eilish’s “BIRDS OF A FEATHER” which struck a chord. Now with over 235k views on TikTok, comments came flooding in to request a full version, with many sharing they want to dance at their weddings to Venus’ version. Due to the overwhelming response, Venus recorded a full version which can be heard now on Spotify and SoundCloud.
