Walter The Producer Releases "MUST BE THE AIR"
20-year-old Walter The Producer has compelled the music world to stand up and take notice of his infectious blend of indie, disco-pop, and alt-R&B. The young artist has already made a lasting impression, and his journey is just beginning.
Walter The Producer isn’t slowing down after the release of his viral debut project, No Substance Mixtape. Perhaps that’s because at just 20 years old, the multi-talented artist is bursting with energy, as he continues to craft a sound that is as authentic as it is infectious.
Chock full of creative drive (and Kombucha), Walter The Producer has just released his newest single, “MUST BE THE AIR,” a vibey, lo-fi pop rock track co-produced by Cowboy Lanksy.
"Cowboy Lansky and I clicked immediately,” shares Walter The Producer.
“I was making a lot of psychedelic rock stuff at the time so I kind of wanted to do something different. This was also the first time I was in L.A., and I was super inspired by how chill everything was. Cowboy and I started playing around and ended up with this cool guitar loop we made and then went from there. He had this cool slide guitar in the corner of his room that I knew we needed to use. We ended up coming up with a cool slide riff and the melody and lyrics just started flowing.”
Born and raised on the south shore of Massachusetts, Walter The Producer – whose real name is Reid – started playing guitar and piano at the age of 10, and was making beats by the time he was 13. Now 20 years old, the enigmatic artist is quickly garnering droves of new fans with his refreshingly original sound.
Inspired by artists like Tame Impala, Steve Lacy, and Childish Gambino, Walter The Producer prefers to let his music speak for itself. No Substance Mixtape, which features the buzzy single, “Since September,” has been a launchpad for his career and landed him on an impressive number of personal playlists. That said, Walter The Producer still believes his greatest achievement was earning the Coaches Award for 8TH Grade Basketball.
Walter The Producer’s music – which he produces, mixes, and masters himself – is almost all we truly know about him. What he lacks in age, he makes up for in pure, raw talent. He is a scrupulous artist and a masterful storyteller, oozing creativity from the soul.
"I just want to hit all bases with what I make musically,” he says.
“With this new song specifically, I was trying to make something that gave me nostalgia from what I would listen to on the way to school in the fall – like something from my Junior-year playlist.”
