We had the chance to chat with Caity Basey about her recent new ep “Thanks For Nothing, See You Never “, which its out now on all platforms. The album screams transformation and we cannot wait to share that with you.
She recently shared the EP's "2020s" and "Kiss You." Caity was on numerous ones-to-watch-in-2023 lists in the UK, has graced the digital cover of Line of Best Fit and is now turning her sites on North America. The 20 year old singer, songwriter and pop provocateur is equal parts loud, funny, vibrant and sensitive - all words that describe both Caity and her music. Her popularity shot up in little over a year, thanks to her effortless knack for catchy pop melodies and her unforgettable live shows.
Hi Caity, Thank you for taking the time to chat with us. We are so excited to talk to you about your new ep, which is out now. How are you feeling now that it’s out?
Hellllooo how’re u doing ! I am absolutely ecstatic that everyone can finally hear these songs !!!! I really love every single song and what each of them mean to me.
We are always curious how one names name, their own EP, how did you come up with the titled EP Thanks For Nothing, See You Never?
Thanks for nothing see you never is actually a thing that I say all the time. Whether that be about , boys friends , clothes it’s just a thing I say to be like BYEEEE NEVER SPEAK TO ME AGAINN! And when I listen to all these songs they represent what the last year or so has been like for me. All the highs and the lows, ugliness and beauty. True, most the songs are about someone and how they made me feel and this was like my final goodbye to them and all those feelings that had a hold on me. So yeah that’s it thanks for nothing see u never !!!!!
We had the chance to check out the ep; The ep as a whole gave us this Meghan Trainer/Anne Marie meets Rom-com transformation scene energy. When it came to writing these catchy lyrics, what was some of the inspiration that you pulled from? Curious to know what was on your playlist while writing these songs.
Lyrically I’m inspired by what actually goes on in my life. And the catchy lyrics just come out of me like I’m talking to my mates about whatever is going on. I’m gunna bait myself out now but genuinely my most listened to artist is me ahaha. I’m always listening and re listening to my own songs and making more as I go along. However I do absolutely love Meghan trainor , Katy Perry , rizzle kicks , lily allen I could go on. So there’s some inspo from that too for sure.
What song felt the most challenging to write?
All of them were pretty easy to write because making songs is my therapy. But 2020s was probably the most difficult not lyrically but I just remember going in and being so mad and upset and feeling so misunderstood. So it was challenging because sometimes getting all of those thoughts out but still making it uplifting can be quite difficult. Also I kept crying while writing it ahaha.
Honestly, Pretty Boys was one of our personal favorites out of the EP. When it comes to writing a song about dating these types of men, do they think they will know it’s about them?
Yeah 10000% simply because I’m so specific with everything I say. It kinda makes me laugh tho. Just let’s people know if ur gunna be a dick everyone’s gunna know about it ahaha.
You were just at the Brit Awards last weekend, how are you doing since that night? From what I saw on your Tiktok, it looked like a movie.
The whole day was actually a nightmare aha I was crying in Westfield’s and everything was going wrong but by the time I got there it was loads of fun and I looked slay so that was cool. Everything works out in the end! I also loved being in a room full of people that I look up to!
What’s next for Caity Baser? Is there a chance you might cross the pond and take over the US?
I’m actually going to LA in March which will be cool I can’t wait to let the US know who CB is! I’m going on tour as well which is cool. Maybe some collabs, festivals lots of cool shit. LETS GOOO!
