A song that embodies the very essence of the band’s feel-good manifesto, “it’s been a minute” is a song simply about looking on the bright side of life and living it as an eternal optimist. As the band explain:

“The song is about being an eternal optimist, positive person in a world growing more bleak. The song references changes to nature, the journey through music and moving around, life in general and how you see how your journey of almost career and life freedom regardless of the financial goal compares to that of friends from college that followed a more traditional route. It’s a love cry to the world wrapped up in optimism, much like our band ethos, it’s about not worrying and escaping to where you feel happy and able to face anything and that’s what this song is all about.”

Awash with heat-haze woozy synths, sun-lounger reclined saxophone breaks, and spoken word couplets that roll as effortlessly as a summertime breeze, “it’s been a minute” is a warm welcome into the world of Isla Rico.

Aiming to transport listeners from the drudgery of real life and into a brighter place filled with "good tunes and vibes” aplenty, the band make their mark with their inspiring first studio collection. From the glass half-full optimism of “it’s been a minute” to the benefits of striking a positive work-life balance (“honey”), to losing yourself in the thrill of a proper night out (“maliblues”) and finding your personal paradise (“naranja”), the 'Eternal Optimist’ EP is a sunny, danceable debut destined to put Isla Rico on the map.

Pushing the limits of indie music through a shared love of pop, Isla Rico first formed in a homemade tiki bar in Manchester and they own a sound as colourful and carefree as the place of their inception.

Developing a dynamic live show and compelling stage presence in their short time together, the three-piece have a rep for turning up the heat in front of a live audience and they spent the summer performing to packed-out crowds at major festivals including The Great Escape and Y Not?. Demand for the band has skyrocketed ever since.

With the songs of their debut EP ‘Eternal Optimist’ now at their disposal, Isla Rico will be rounding-off a benchmark year with a handful of live shows across their native Northwest, including a special EP launch show at Warrington’s Pyramid Basement on 3rd November, plus a performance at Scruff Of The Neck’s Year’s End Festival in Manchester next month. Standby for further new music and shows from Isla Rico very soon…
