Year later and they are back, Juicypear just dropped Underneath It All cover
Recording a cover song was not really part of the plan.
After scheduling a few sessions to record new material with their production team in Highland Park, Los Angeles, Jacob and Jasmine Mayeda (AKA JUICYPEAR) opted to use some precious studio time to take a stab at No Doubt’s modern pop classic “Underneath It All,” a cover they’d slipped into their live setlists earlier this year.
One of the biggest bands dominating radio during Jasmine’s formidable grade school years in the South Bay area a couple of decades earlier, the idea of paying tribute to No Doubt and Gwen Stefani—who exploded into legend status just a few miles east in Anaheim and served as one of her biggest inspirations—just made sense.
“‘Underneath It All’ is such an iconic, unique song. There’s really no other song like it,” says Jasmine. “Gwen Stefani has been a music hero to me as long as I can remember; so we were stoked to recreate this and put our own spin on it. It’s been so fun to play it at our live shows and have people recognize it and sing along.”
In spite of the demands life brought upon Jacob and Jasmine Mayeda over the past 12 months: the introduction to parenthood, being present during difficult seasons in family members’ lives and running their own family business (to name just a few), JUICYPEAR has steadily kept progress with recording a batch of fresh, original material that will round out the band’s debut full-length project, set to release in early 2023.
In the meantime, JUICYPEAR is honored to release a funky-soul, shimmering and sultry rendition of one of their all-time favorite pop songs through The Orchard/Sony Music Distribution - co-produced by Nicolas & Aalok Balachandran and Eric Lee Carpenter, mixed by Daniel Chrisman and mastered by Adam Chamberlain.
Jasmine and Jacob were both born and raised in the South Bay area of southern California. The story of their ultimately serendipitous union has all the makings of a Hallmark movie, filled with heartrending twists, turns, and missed opportunities.
The two married in April of 2019 and live happily in South Bay.
Inspired by artists like Pharrell, Lianne La Havas, Dua Lipa, John Mayer, Stevie Wonder, and H.E.R., JUICYPEAR is part of AESTHETYK, founded by music industry veteran, Matt Ingle. Ingle created AESTHETYK as a way to offer emerging songwriters and musicians an opportunity for incubation, helping them cultivate a signature and meaningful sound, as well as brand and ethic for a mass audience.
