(June 23rd, 2021) Today, New York-born, LA-based multi-talented singer & actor Skylar Astin releases his debut single — "Without You" (stream HERE). The infectious, euphoric song captures the blissful feeling of meeting someone and knowing you want the connection to last a lifetime.

Produced by collaborator Eric Lam and inspired by the celebratory feeling of finding someone and diving in head first, "Without You" is a song that Skylar hopes will give people an escape — a feeling that he felt when creating the song in the middle of the pandemic. “Making this music made me feel lighter during a time that was pretty dark around the world,” he says. “If I can make other people feel lighter and bring some positivity & good vibes when they listen, my job.

Pulling from his background and experience on Broadway, Astin approaches music-making similarly to that of a musical — juxtaposing melodies and vocals that create such a powerful build-up, it sounds like the finale of a musical. Last year, when the entire world was at a standstill, Skylar Astin decided he would embrace his newfound free time and work on something he always dreamed of making: his own solo music. Although the New York-born, LA-based multi-talented singer & actor is best known for his performances on stages across Broadway and his starring roles in acclaimed films & TV shows (Pitch Perfect, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, etc), Skylar has always been one to thrive when pushing his own boundaries. His upcoming new music is perfect proof of that.
Rather than binging whatever was trending on Netflix, he used the 2020 Covid lockdown time to convert his home office into a recording studio. Taking what he learned throughout his decades of work in theatre and film, Skylar began working closely with his only other collaborator, producer Eric Lam. Astin had been introduced to Eric over ten years ago by Astin’s brother, Milan. Working remotely, both Astin and Lam began to create a sound that is a unique blend of timeless yet distinctly modern pop. Lam’s captivating beats & production paired perfectly with Skylar’s lyrics & melodies. Pop is, of course, a genre of music Astin loves for its universality and reach.
