Are you ready for a Disco Two Step? You are? Cool, Me Like Bees got you covered

Missouri-based indie rock band Me Like Bees’ 11-track sophomore full-length album Disco Two Step is out today. The album encapsulates the nostalgia and quintessential motifs of the indie rock genre, with its focus track, “Animal,” perfectly demonstrating the infectious nature of the genre. Distinguished by a standout intro led by a captivating horns section, the song and its lively music video weaves between the rock ‘n’ roll and comedic essence of Me Like Bees. “We’d love to say that there is some deeper meaning behind the Animal music video other than we wanted to dress up like idiots and play tennis badly for two days straight,” the band admits, “But sadly, we cannot.”

Pursuing a career in the music industry can prove to be a selfish thing at times, something Me Like Bees has grappled with in the past. “You give so much of yourself to the pursuit and the art that you often overlook the needs of those who support you the most,” Pete states. “‘Animal’ is a song about those people who stick around in spite of that.”

With the release of the album’s lead single, “Radio,” and “The Right Stuff” under their belt, the band has laid an unshakable foundation leading up to this album release. Me Like Bees — Luke Sheafer (lead vocals), Pete Burton (guitar, vocals), Jake Bennett (bass, vocals), and Ben Davis (drums, vocals) — is a true testament to the endurance of the 2000s indie pop/rock era soundscape.

The album’s lead single, “Radio” (released August 17), garnered praise from Atwood Magazine naming it a “true earworm of a release,” as well as saying: “The urgent new single churns, rocks and shakes, and will no doubt sound familiar to anyone who’s sought refuge in the power of, well, a favorite new song on the radio.” With an equally as energetic music video that undeniably foreshadowed what to expect from the rest of the album.

The band followed with their second single, “The Right Stuff” (released September 23), characterized by a danceable melody infused with joyful pop riffs, armed by signature alternative rock beats. New Noise Magazine premiered the track saying, “The band embraces the imprecise, highly-dynamic, and multi-genre-synced identity of indie rock, and “The Right Stuff” is no exception.” Further showcasing the personality and talent the band brings to the indie rock table, the track is accompanied by an eccentric music video.

Formed on the heels of the 2000s indie rock scene, Missouri-based indie rock band, Me Like Bees, was created by college dropout, Pete Burton and former gas station clerk, Luke Sheafer in 2009. The pair met while playing high school football together in Kansas; only to lose touch and serendipitously end up at the same college town in southwest Missouri several years later. The duo shared a mutual affinity for the music of the aughts. Bands like The Strokes, Modest Mouse, The White Stripes, and Franz Ferdinand, would serve as the catalyst to the danceable, guitar-driven rock that Me Like Bees would become known for, all of which are ever-present on their 11-track sophomore full-length album — Disco Two Step — set for release on Friday, October 14.

Notably, the band released their first full-length album, The Ides, via Loveway Records in 2013. In 2014, they won first prize at the Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands in Hollywood, CA — beating out 20,000 other artists, and securing a coveted spot on the Vans Warped Tour. With their undeniable trajectory of growth, the group knew the next step was to make more music. They got the chance to work alongside Goldfinger frontman and well-known producer, John Feldmann for the There Will Be Time EP (2016), and they didn’t stop there. In 2018, they partnered with Image Comics and artist Jeremy Haun for the release of their graphic novel-inspired EP, Songs From The Realm.

With a plethora of years in the game, knowing their way around the studio plus the upcoming release of Disco Two Step — Me Like Bees is making sure they’ve got your attention. With album release shows lined up throughout the fall, you won’t want to miss seeing these guys live.
