We went to class and checked out K-12, a Melanie Martinez Film
So, Taylor bought a movie ticket…..and of course it can’t be just a normal film…..
So, I’ve been eyeing this movie release for some time, as she had mention that this was going to be a reality a while back ago in an interview. The moment when the trailer was release, of course I had to buy a ticket for this one time event. Many artist have done a movie to promote their new album just look at Beyonce and rapper G-Eazy so what makes this film different to those? For starters, this film was available to everyone (no HBO or apple music) for one night in movie theaters across the use and parts of the world. If you want to talk about making a grand entrance, she got you covered. Yes, the movie is available to watch right now on certain streaming devices but the point is seeing this in a theater surrounded by fans was a great way to create a better community in the fanbase. With that being said here is what the movie is about:
Now that we got the bases covered, here is what I experience at the event. (Results will vary for those who went). I should make a note here, I am not an avid listener nor have attended any of her shows. I enjoy her music and her creative outlook in her music videos but I’m no die hard fan. I did ask a lot of fans there own reviews of the film. Most thoughts of the movie were of the same mindlink like the others. They had enjoy the movie and thought it was the best. I wasn’t sure what to expect from this one time event here in Michigan. I was expecting from most of their fan base people who were decked out in cosplay outfits of Melanie but at last, there wasn’t many that did dress up. I arrived at the event only shy of 30 minutes before the set time. Overall, the fans were pretty relax and excited to see this in theaters.
It was a very well put together film with a scenic nature of bright Elizabethan theme or in new contents, Pastel Goth. The use of traditional decoration mix in with eighties/nineties pop culture reference was interesting take of direction. The style of the film really put on a lasting impression on me after seeing the movie. The Choreography was at the top of the list for myself on what I loved about this movie. It was playful and seductive not something you would normally see in a Crybaby series. Personal favorite dance was the synchronizing swimming scene in Strawberry Shortcake and the show and tell.
With this being Melanie’s first feature length film, I commend her on her ambition. Creating a world is no cake walk. I found that it lack a consistent flow in the story line it set out to take, with transitions from song to story feeling choppy. The story line is simple on it’s own but added these drama pieces to fit the narrative of the songs in the album created this non-coherent structure. A little guidance can help her out tremendously in her next film. This is a only lesson one for her and I know I cannot wait to see how she does for the next lesson. After all, it’s only the first grade.
You can see the movie for yourself, right below this review. Tell me what you thought about the movie in the comments below or on social media.
