Unfinished Business, produced by Boo, flickers elegantly between aimei 媚’s musical heritage that’s rooted between traditional pop and electronic, meshing simplistic yet perfect piano with vibrant, brooding production. It’s sleek, it’s punchy & outrightly fresh sounding. Speaking about the song, aimei 媚 explains “I have a tendency to give too much to others, only to have them hold me back. I created "Unfinished Business" during a period in my life when this was particularly true.”
Unlike many debut EP being released, where there are elements of an artist finding their sound, aimei媚’s first extended play already feels rich in self-awareness. The City’s Violent EP takes a wide snapshot of her heritage, drawing on the influences of having spent her formative years immersed in Manchester’s vibrant electronic scene, and also from London (where she now calls home) where much of the EP was written and then cultivated. aimei 媚 adds “My Chinese heritage is also deeply ingrained in who I am, and I’ve always sought to express that through my music. Weaving Mandarin into my EP, Citys Violent, feels like a crucial fusion of my identity—a bridge connecting my roots with the essence of my musical expression.”
