Today, the indie pop duo Chess Club have shared their newest single, "Wedding of the Year", an irresistible pop track that could melt any heart. Putting a sensual, funky spin on a tale as old as time, the Fab Two have easily crafted the perfect, feel-good romance anthem...as well as the hottest, new holiday song about the Fourth of July.

"Wedding of the Year" is not just a snapshot of a beautiful summer ceremony, but also a song for every season. Stylistically, the song pulls from indie pop influences that include The 1975, which is appropriate as saxophonist John Waugh (The 1975) is the featured soloist on the song. The delicate strings-led arrangements and pulsing piano rhythm are also grounded by a joyful funk guitar, played by featured session player Mark Lettieri (The Fearless Flyers). In short, it's a musical masterpiece.

"When we were going through our idea list, this one stood out and we set out to compose the perfect wedding song," says the Chess Club duo. Sure, they wrote "Wedding of the Year" in a firestorm of humorous, lighthearted concepts, but once they had their perfect bit, like finding their soulmates, they decided to fully and seriously commit to it. "All of the tonal qualities are based on the quintessential wedding experience… bells, strings, guitars, piano," they add. "We contemplated the modern wedding hits from Christina Perri and Sara Bareilles and the ceremonial music of Vitamin String Quartet while figuring out how to blend the energy of a ceremony and a party at the same time. Bringing in John Waugh (The 1975) to perform a 'I Had The Time Of My Life' inspired, epic saxophone solo, tied it all together."

The new single comes with a special music video filmed by cinematographer, Mike Gentilini Jr. (The Righteous Gemstones, The Hunting Wives) and written/directed by Chess Club's Champagne (Adam Chase). Following his other half Paris (Danny Darress) on the happiest day of his life, the video pulls from real-life experiences about falling in love in unexpected (and often inconvenient) ways, finding the humor in a tense dramatic moment and celebrating the quirks of life. "The story plays out the way a sitcom or romantic comedy could allow the characters to do the things that many people think about but could never act upon," adds Chase.

Chess Club, sometimes referred to as “The Fab Two”, were just a couple of music-loving teens from America before becoming cultural and musical icons. Set out to put music on the map, the song writing duo of Champagne (Adam Chase, drums) and Paris (Danny Darress, keys/vocals) formed conceptually at a restaurant in Ohio…or Michigan. It’s hard to say for sure. All that is known is that they formed in 2023 during what they now refer to as the "six song day," inspiration struck, and hit after hit after hit were penned. Infectious hooks like, “I’m not bothered by your birthmark,” and “I like your mom more than you,” were born.

While the playfulness of the band was apparent in the lyrics, the serious songwriting prowess of the band became the focal point as the duo went right into the studio to work on their debut record which features collaborations with GaTa (DAVE), John Waugh (The 1975), Isaiah Sharkey (D’Angelo's Vanguard), Yesseh Furaha-Ali (Jonas Brothers), and many others.

With a new album on the horizon, Chess Club is introducing their charm to the world with their single, “Wedding of the Year”, which takes the listener on a journey of falling in love, breaking up and falling in love again.

Chess Club’s Champagne and Paris are comparable to Lennon and McCartney in songwriting, Jagger and Richards in prowess, Bret and Jermaine, & Jack and Kyle in wit. With an irreverent sense of humor and a knack for infectious hooks, Champagne and Paris have crafted a songbook that will go down in history as one of the best catalogues ever recorded.
