Third Man Records has announced today’s premiere of the eagerly awaited new EP from The Paranoyds. The Los Angeles, CA-based garage rock band’s first new music in close to three years, Late Nighter was produced in part by The Kills’ Jamie Hince, who also contributes guitar to the 4-song project’s lead track, “Tracy Don’t.”

“We didn’t know it at the time, but it all started with a vanity plate: L8 NYTR,” say The Paranoyds. “Then there was the tour with the Kills, the two most genuine people and authentic rockers we might have ever crossed paths with. We spent most of August going to Jamie’s home studio with the goal of writing a song a day. We eventually recorded our demos with him later that November. daylight savings comes in, and it gets dark so early--perhaps the depth and grit that our summertime demos needed? We would leave the sessions and come back the next day to find  that Jamie had worked total studio magic on the tracks after we left. he was our late nighter, el capitán, guiding everything to exactly where it needed to be.”

The Paranoyds have the kind of connection people only dream of: as non-biological sisters who have known each other longer than they haven’t and speak a language that no one else can understand. With a bond that began in preschool, Laila Hashemi (keys/vocals) and Lexi Funston (guitar/vocals) were always inseparable, so when they met Staz Lindes (bass/vocals) in ninth grade, it felt like they had known her all along. After all, they were a “package deal.” In high school, they began making music together in a friend’s laundry room and their relationship simply blossomed from there. When it came time to add a drummer, David Ruiz, who joined the band in 2015, fit in like he had been there all along. It’s that special bond that has solidified their relationship as bandmates who connect seamlessly to one another’s energy on stage – and best friends. And it’s the one thing that has remained a constant throughout all these years.

2022 saw The Paranoyds make their TMR debut with Talk Talk Talk, produced by Froth’s Joo Joo Ashworth (who now contributes additional guitar to Late Nighter’s “Girls Like Me”). Hailed by Alternative Press for its “sonically unwashed yet often tuneful chant…(combining) crowd-charging energy with thoughtful, mind-bending messages,” songs like “Lizzie“ and “Freak Out“ showcased the band’s bold collage of groovy R&B, lo-fi punk, fuzz-pop, and garage rock, a dynamic sound approach now pushed even further with Late Nighter.

Along with their recorded output, The Paranoyds have solidified their status as one of the most exciting bands to emerge in recent years, touring extensively across North America and Europe as headliners while also sharing stages with notable acts such as Death Valley Girls, Bleached, and L.A. WITCH, among others. The band – who marked the arrival of Late Nighter with a hometown record release event last night at Los Angeles’ Permanent Records Roadhouse – will celebrate their long-awaited return with upcoming live dates, including a SoCal triple-bill alongside Doll Riot and Trash Day set for July 30 at San Diego, CA’s Soda Bar.
