At the center of cyanotype are two complementary creative forces: one rooted in language and internal world-building, the other built around texture, tone, and sonic construction. For Silvia K, writing has always been instinctive. A primary mode of expression, long before music began to consume her reality. Her songs begin as fragments of language: phrases, rhythms, or abstract emotional impressions that eventually find themselves accompanied by guitar. For J.C. Vargas, an early fascination with maximalist sound and self-taught virtuosity across multiple instruments bloom in a world based around shaping music from the ground up.

As cyanotype, they work to build melodic realities out of scattered bits of inspiration pulled directly from the creative source. Songs emerge in fragments and evolve intuitively. “It’s not methodical,” they explain. “It kind of feels like a puzzle.” A melody might come from a passing thought, a line of text, or even the ambient rhythm of the outside world. From there, the art finds form through spontaneous moments rather than rigid planning.

Completed with mixing by Sonny Diperri (DIIV, My Bloody Valentine, STRFKR) and mastering by Dave Cooley (Paramore, Animal Collective), the track stands as both a document of who they were at the moment of its creation, and a shimmering vision of what comes next.
