NORTH AMERICAN TOUR KICKS OFF NOV. 5

Los Angeles, CA (September 30, 2026) – Formed in 2023 in Salt Lake City, The Kilans arrived with their particular brand of infectious indie rock fully crystallized, boasting a loud-soft dynamic that is at once evocative, compelling, and simultaneously nostalgic and novel. Today, following a string of well-received standalone singles and EPs – and a viral 2024 performance to boot – the band are thrilled to detail their highly anticipated forthcoming debut album, Could You Keep It Dark?, due October 30th, 2026 via Mom + Pop Music, and share the album’s heart-wrenching, string-laden closer, “Oh, Lucy,” alongside its accompanying music video.

While reflecting on the song and video out today, Jack Ongman (vocals, rhythm guitar) says “The close of the album is about death. The chorus of ‘Oh, Lucy’ represents being in an afterlife with your eternal love. I sing  ‘One day you'll call my name until we both evaporate,’ and that’s where the narrative takes place. The vision behind the video was that this older gentleman, playing an aged up version of myself, never got over this girl, so you see me playing myself and glimpse me in the future, never having let go.”

The band’s lineup, rounded out by Jacob Shultz (lead guitar), Cooper Brezoff (bass), and David Wiseman (drums), channel the raw energy of their basement origins into a more mature, realized body of work on Could You Keep It Dark?, which features the previously released single “Cherry, Please.” With Could You Keep It Dark?, The Kilans aren't just delivering on their early promise — they're announcing themselves on a national stage, authentically and on their own terms.

Speaking on the themes explored on the album, Ongman states  “This album is like a hello to the world. This is who we are. I think the overall theme of the album is about struggling with mental health. I was diagnosed with OCD when I was in high school. It's gotten a lot better as I've grown older, but I was someone who really struggled with it in high school and beyond. I still struggle with it, but it's more manageable now. Our song “Oliver” is about that. Another theme of the album revolves around the fact that I’m the only musician ever to come out of my family., No one in my family, as far as you can trace back, has even been able to play an instrument. Sometimes, I feel judged for doing it. It's gotten a lot harder as I've gotten older to deal with. ‘9-5,’ ‘Nightmare’ and ‘Biome’ are all about that.”

He continues, “The songs on the first half of the album all have an upbeat feel to them and they're all like talking about that sort of thing. And then the second half of the album, starting with ‘KILANS,’ which is an interlude, represents the change of mood. It's an angry song, then it veers into the introspective, the more personal and reflective side of the album.”

In support of the release, the band will embark on a North American tour this autumn, bringing their signature live intensity to stages across North America. Full list of dates below.
