A*TEENS RETURN WITH FIRST NEW MUSIC IN OVER 20 YEARS – "ICONIC" DEBUTS AT MELODIFESTIVALEN 2026
Swedish pop phenomenon A*Teens, one of Sweden's biggest music exports of all time with over 6 million albums sold worldwide, reunites to release "Iconic" today on January 30, 2026, and compete in Melodifestivalen on January 31, 2026
After more than two decades, A*Teens is making their highly anticipated comeback with "Iconic," their first new single in over 20 years. The track, written by the award-winning team behind Loreen's Eurovision-winning "Tattoo" (Jimmy Jansson, Moa "Cazzi Opeia" Carlebecker, and Thomas G:son), Lina Hansson and Dino Medanhodzic, will be released on January 30, 2026, ahead of the group's performance at Melodifestivalen – Sweden's national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest – on January 31, 2026.
– 'Iconic' has a chorus that sticks after the first listen, a banger that ties together A*Teens then and now. The song is what it says – iconic, says A*Teens.
Formed in 1998, A*Teens – consisting of Marie Serneholt, Sara Lumholdt, Dhani Lennevald, and Amit Paul – quickly became international superstars with their unique interpretations of ABBA's timeless hits. Their debut album, "The ABBA Generation", sold over 2 million copies globally and was certified Gold or Platinum in over 22 countries.
The group dominated charts worldwide with iconic hits including "Upside Down", "Halfway Around The World" and "Floorfiller" establishing themselves as one of Sweden's most successful music exports. Their music reached audiences across the US, South America, Asia, and Europe, and they toured alongside global superstars Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears.
A*Teens' music has also been featured in major Hollywood blockbusters, including "Can't Help Falling In Love" as the end-credit song for Disney's "Lilo & Stitch", "Heartbreak Lullaby" in "The Princess Diaries" and most recently, a newly produced remix of "Dancing Queen" in Marvel's "Venom: The Last Dance" (2024).
After a 20-year hiatus, A*Teens made a celebrated return to celebrate their 25th Anniversary at Melodifestivalen 2024 with a spectacular medley featuring both their own hits and some of ABBA's most beloved songs. The performance was met with overwhelming enthusiasm from fans old and new.
– We didn't know it then, but the response we received after our interval act at Melodifestivalen 2024 became the starting point for our comeback. Over the past two years, we've toured and traveled around the world, meeting our audience, and the idea of new music started to appeal to us. It feels big, nerve-wracking, and completely right to launch it at Melodifestivalen, says A*Teens.
During 2025, fans worldwide experienced A*Teens live for the first time in over 20 years, as the band toured Chile, Argentina, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Spain, and Norway, including an exclusive performance at Stockholm Pride in Seden.
A*Teens will compete in Melodifestivalen on January 31, 2026, with "Iconic," marking a historic moment as they combine their return to music with Sweden's most-watched television event.
