"...a unique and very appealing fusion of post-hardcore and power pop." - Brooklyn Vegan [on “Keepsake Theory”]
Los Angeles, CA (January 14, 2026) – Last month, Hit Like a Girl – the songwriting project of Nicolle Maroulis (they/them) - announced the forthcoming release of their album, Burning At Both Ends, due March 27, 2026 via the Philadelphia-based indie Cryptid Records, alongside the stunning lead single, “Keepsake Theory” and its accompanying music video. That song featured haunting guitar played by Jacob Blizard, frequent collaborator of Lucy Dacus and Illuminati Hotties. Today, the band is back with the second song to be shared from the upcoming full-length, the exhilarating “Only Have Myself.” The band, which features a rotating live lineup featuring Mol White (they/them) and Mike Davis (he/they), will be hitting the road beginning next month on the West Coast, before hosting No More Dysphoria Fest in their native Philadelphia in March, followed by a headlining run beginning in May.
Within the often complicated queer experience, “Only Have Myself” navigates a whirlwind polyamorous relationship that ultimately ends in betrayal. This song packs a punch, from the biting lyrics and driving rhythm, to the powerful synth lines and steady picked guitars; the track is a powerful plea to an unsympathetic lover. Taking sonic inspiration from midwest emo, alternative pop, and indie rock, “Only Have Myself” ends with band leader Nicolle Maroulis repeating the screamed title line, surrendering to the reality of love lost.

Maroulis calls the track an album “...stand out. Anyone who knows me knows I love a good crescendo, and the ending of this song is full of real/raw emotion. Plus the lyrics mention very specific language about polyamory that I don’t think you see very often which is cool.”

Speaking on Burning At Both Ends, Hit Like a Girl’s fifth and most collaborative LP to date, Maroulis explains, “It’s the first album I was able to write with the folks in my current live lineup.” While Burning At Both Ends is a record that is proudly unafraid to delve into dark and painful emotions, Nicolle Maroulis (they/them) has struck the perfect balance between exploring hardships and pure, danceable, raucous fun. Taking the title from the common phrase “burning the candle at both ends,” Nicolle is no stranger to hard work, whether that be within the framework of a romantic relationship, navigating mental health struggles, or constantly putting their all into their music. This album is a reckoning of sorts; it begs the question, “What happens when there is nothing left to give?” Taking sonic influence from midwest emo, hardcore, synth pop, and alternative, Burning At Both Ends is incredibly energizing while remaining grounded. Whether it's a destabilizing life change, a devastating heartbreak, or a boundary yelled with conviction, this record will leave you wanting more.
