SG LEWIS RETURNS WITH NEW SINGLE “BACK OF MY MIND”

Premiering tonight as BBC R1’s Hottest Record, London via LA producer, DJ, and songwriter SG Lewis today returns with “Back Of My Mind" – listen here. Out now via Forever Days/Astralwerks, the track is the first taste of what’s to come from the next era of SG Lewis – one rooted in emotion, nostalgia, and a reimagined vision of the dancefloor, taking references from past eras and filtering them through a thoroughly modern lens.

For the first time in over a year, SG takes centre stage on vocals, delivering an emotionally charged performance that nods to the 90s trance and early progressive house that first inspired him to make music. Co-written in LA with Julian Bunetta and Ed Drewett and finished with long-time collaborator TEED, the track is as lyrically introspective as it is sonically ambitious, blending euphoric synths with a melancholic undercurrent as SG Lewis explains:

“After spending last year focusing on ‘Club Heat’ and ‘Forever Days’, it felt right for the first taste of the forthcoming album to be a track that I’m singing on. ‘Back of My Mind’ is a track about grief in all its forms, and the catharsis that can be provided by music. I wanted to create something introspective lyrically and it draws inspiration from a lot of the music I was listening to when I started producing, such as 90s trance and early prog house.”

The single arrives at a time of creative renewal for SG Lewis. Having spent the past year grounding himself in his London studio after a decade of life on the road, he has channelled that reflective energy into a deeper, more expansive sound. The result is a new body of work that reaches beyond the club – blending timeless dance music influences with vivid storytelling.

This wave of new music follows on from a stellar 18 months of activity for the much-adored artist, with key collaborations alongside Tove Lo (HEAT EP), Nelly Furtado and Shygirl as well as the launch of his own label Forever Days which saw him launch his own curated headline shows across iconic venues including KOKO in London, The Knockdown Centre in New York, and Ibiza’s Cova Santa.
