March 18, 2025 - Last night- multi-platinum, chart-topping, and record-breaking band Shinedown had a big night as they took home Rock Artist of the Year and Rock Song of the Year for “A Symptom of Being Human” at the iHeartRadio Music Awards at The Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
The band were given both awards on the red carpet and upon receiving the awards Brent Smith said “This is the first award in the United States that we’ve ever received for our music, we’ve been nominated many times but this is our very first time that we’ve won… and the fact that we’ve won twice?! I’m trying to comprehend this right now! Is this even happening? We gotta thank everyone at iHeart because they’ve been extraordinary. The band that we’re in was built by terrestrial radio in the United States and it means the world to us. We’ve been a band for two decades and we’re so proud of the last 20 years but it’s also about the next 20 years. Tom Poleman, Brad Hardin, Alissa Pollack, Lisa Worden, John Peake, and Mark Adams - they’ve been extraordinary with this journey that we are on and they’ve been so supportive of what we do… iHeart has been the champion for us at terrestrial radio, they’ve always allowed us to be ourselves and have never given us boundaries, we really appreciate this. Thank you to the fans for letting us be ourselves. Thank you so so much!”
The awards are in celebration of the banner year they’ve had as “A Symptom of Being Human” has hit nearly 125 million global streams and charted at five radio formats including a #1 at Active, Top 10 at Alternative, Top 10 at AC, Top 15 at Hot AC and a Top 20 at Top 40. To date Shinedown are the very first artist to get a song Top 10 at Active, Alternative and Hot AC Radio on Mediabase with one song. The song, off of their Planet Zero album, resonated with fans across the globe for the unifying message of its lyrics: that it is our human connections that matter the most.
The band has already had a packed 2025 as their latest single “Dance, Kid, Dance” has made history reaching #1 on the Mediabase Active Rock Chart, which marks their 22nd song to reach #1 on the chart, and on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Chart. Shinedown have become the only band in the charts history to reach 20 #1’s on the chart. Not to mention when the song entered the Top 5 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Chart, Shinedown tied with the Foo Fighters for the artists with the most songs to hit the top 10 in the chart's history with 32 songs each. All these incredible accomplishments continue to solidify that Shinedown have made a name for themselves in rock. On Mediabase, Shinedown hold the record for the most #1’s, #5’s and #10’s on the Active Rock chart, with a total of 24 #1’s on the Mediabase charts.
However, Shinedown aren’t just a rock band. They are Shinedown - a band for everyone and just like they did with “A Symptom of Being Human” they have already crossed over with their second 2025 single “Three Six Five.” The track not only is already Top 15 at Alternative Radio and Hot AC but it continues to climb.
Up next the band will kick off their Dance, Kid, Dance Tour on April 25th in Des Moines, Iowa. The 36-date run is one of the largest run of shows (and venues) the band has ever put on. It will be the first time the band has ever headlined some of the country's most legendary venues including Madison Square Garden (July 20th), Boston’s TD Garden (July 19th), LA’s Kia Forum (August 3rd), New Orleans’ Smoothie King (May 6th) and more. Joining them on the tour are Beartooth & Bush (on select dates) and Morgan Wade for all shows. See full tour dates below and at www.shinedown.com.

Speaking on the two new songs and the “Dance, Kid, Dance” tour, frontman Brent Smith said: “We needed to approach everything different this time… The last two albums were both conceptual so it was important for us to really ask ourselves creatively where do we want to go. The answer to that was we want to go everywhere so there was no specific direction. We just started writing, and let the new songs guide us. I also think we stopped saying “why” and started saying “why not?.” When we were thinking about touring, we had certain artists in mind. Instead of being of the mindset that they wouldn’t want to come out to tour with us, we just asked them -- and they said yes. Honestly, it’s quite humbling, we are extremely excited for this new chapter, and tour. SO LET’S GO!!!!”
The two new singles embody the many multifaceted talents of the Shinedown: One part rock ‘n’ roll dynamism and one part incredible songwriting and passion. “Dance, Kid, Dance” hits hard right out of the gate with incredibly heavy guitars and a tempo that just doesn’t quit. It’s part social commentary and part “don’t overthink it, let’s just rock out and LET’S DANCE!” The song pushes boundaries and is a reminder of why Shinedown holds the record for the most #1 songs at Active Rock Radio of ALL TIME with “Dance, Kid, Dance.”
“Three Six Five” is an example of the band’s ability to tackle tough subjects through impeccable songwriting. Anyone who has ever experienced loss knows that every day we draw breath is an opportunity to live out loud - to live for those we have lost. At its core “Three Six Five” is a reminder to stop wasting time, focus on the moments we have right now, and treasure time with the ones you love the most. The song honors the people in our lives who aren’t with us anymore. It reminds us to stop taking time for granted because it’s not promised. Take chances, be bold, and don’t sweat the small stuff, because as the song says: a lot can happen in a year. “Even though I said all the things that mattered most, while I held on tight to the end of the rope, I could keep you close, but I couldn’t keep you here, a lot can happen in a year.”
Brent Smith and Eric Bass co-wrote “Three Six Five” and “Dance, Kid, Dance” was co-written by Brent Smith, Eric Bass & Dave Bassett. The songs were produced by Eric Bass at his own Big Animal Studio in Charleston, South Carolina.
