Singer, rapper, filmmaker, director and producer Baro Sura returns with Today & Always, a cinematic and soul-rooted odyssey told in three parts - cosmic, cyclical, and impossibly human. Out today, October 24 via Rostrum Records, the album threads together devotion, doubt, persistence, and quiet reconciliation, mapping an emotional journey that feels both universal and deeply intimate.
“Love is the universe,” Baro writes. “It is not linear. It can be lonely. It is recursive and contradictory yet eternal.”
That philosophy pulses through every track. “Yours Now, Yours Next,” the album’s first single, moves with a Taurus-like groundedness - steady yet heavy with feeling. Its follow-up, “i Still Care (ft. A81yann)”, balances on Libra’s scales, wrestling with indecision and the heart’s refusal to let go. Across the record, Baro blends spiritual storytelling with ambient soul, letting silence and texture carry as much weight as rhythm or rhyme.
The project opens with “Know You’re Safe on This Side”, an atmospheric welcome that sets the tone for what’s to come. From the dreamy, otherworldly “sputnik (ft. Kuzich)” to the joyful brightness of “overhead”, each track serves as a constellation in Baro’s orbit. The album drifts through love songs (“Dream a Way ft. Belle”), missed connections (“How’s The Party?”), and reflective moments (“REFLECTIONS II, i LOVE YOU TOO, iCY”) as well as the title track, “Today & Always”, a short, piano-driven ballad that distills the project’s message in its purest form.
Baro explains, “During each acre of the journey, each lightyear - I’ve felt a million ways, dreamt a million dreams. Whether loud, or quiet as our silence, one feeling rings true: Today & Always.”
Grounded in hip-hop yet unconcerned with boundaries, Oromo-Australian artist Baro Sura’s music bends across soul, gospel, and ambient textures - a sound that lives between the past and the future. It’s an evolution from the Melbourne-based artist who first caught wide-spread attention as the only featured guest on Mac Miller’s posthumous album Circles, contributing vocals and drums on “Hand Me Downs.” Since then, he’s continued working with Mac’s brother and creative collaborator Miller McCormick, who designed the visual packaging for Today & Always.
With Today & Always, Baro Sura delivers his most vulnerable and expansive statement yet - an album that exists somewhere between prayer and confession, dream and memory.
