Continuing a stratospheric run, Sabrina Carpenter holds the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 for the second consecutive week with her unanimously acclaimed new album, Short n’ Sweet, out now via Island Records. Upon arrival, it achieved one of the biggest global debuts of 2024. In the last 12 months, only three albums have had a second week as big as Short n’ Sweet. Listen here.
Next up, she takes the stage at UBS Arena in New York for the MTV VMAs on Wednesday, September 11 for what promises to be one of the 2024 ceremony’s most seismic performances. Not to mention, she has garnered six nominations at the event, including “Artist of the Year” and “Best Pop” in addition to “Song of the Year” and “Best Editing” for “Espresso” and “Best Direction” and “Best Art Direction” for “Please Please Please.” Be sure to tune in.
Later this month, she will embark on her sold-out arena tour, the Short n’ Sweet Tour, which kicks off September 23rd in Columbus. The 33-date tour will hit cities across the US and Canada including New York, Los Angeles, Nashville, Toronto, Austin, and more. See below for full routing.
Last week, she took streaming platforms by storm, emerging as Spotify’s Weekly US Top Artist and all twelve album tracks impressively claimed spots in both Spotify’s US Top 20 and Top 40 of Spotify’s Global Top 200. Simultaneously, all tracks debuted within the Top 40 on Apple Music and the album currently sits at #1 on Apple Albums chart. “Taste” also captured #1 on Spotify’s US chart, dethroning Sabrina’s own “Please Please Please.”She also presented the official music video for “Taste,” which trended #1 on US Trending Videos, Global Top Music Videos, and US Top Music Videos. The Dave Meyers-directed video features Jenna Ortega starring alongside Sabrina in an exhilarating visual experience. Watch here.
Of course, the album includes “Espresso” and “Please Please Please,” both of which became instant chart toppers and songs of the summer. “Espresso” became the third fastest song to hit 1 Billion streams in Spotify history, while “Please Please Please” continues to dominate popular culture and became Sabrina’s first #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and still rules airwaves at #1 on Pop Radio.
In the UK, Sabrina became the first female artist to have the Top 3 songs on the UK singles chart for 2 consecutive weeks and only the second artist to ever achieve this after Ed Sheeran in 2017. The album also remains #1 Australia, Canada, France.
Short n’ Sweet has incited widespread critical applause. Rolling Stone praised how “she delivers a masterclass in clever songwriting and hops between R&B and folk-pop with ease,” going on to assure, “It’s official: Do not underestimate Ms. Carpenter’s pen.” Billboard hailed Short n’ Sweet as “one of the most accomplished pop albums of the year,” and Pitchfork professed, “[Short n’ Sweet] is cheeky, clever, and effortlessly executed.” The New York Times described the album as “hook-filled” and highlighted how “Sabrina Carpenter’s winning streak of singles continues on ‘Taste,’ the lilting, deceptively chirping opening track.” Variety summed it up best as, “Masterful.”
