October Drift have released their brand new single ‘Tyrannosaurus Wreck’, taken from their forthcoming third albumBlame The Youngout September 27thvia Physical Education Recordings. The album is available to pre-order nowhere.
‘Tyrannosaurus Wreck’ premiered this morning (August 14th) with John Kennedy on his Radio X X-Posure show who called it“another winner”from the band.
The song mixes refreshing dark humour with soaring alt rock energy and reflects the challenges of relationships in the unstable world of music.
“It’s about a relationship breakdown and the balance of life within this band and life outside of it,”says frontman and guitarist Kiran Roy. “It’s like saying I'm a huge fucking disaster. It’s kind of silly, it has a tragic sort of self-awareness, making light of quite heavy themes.”
The charming video continues to poke fun at these themes and features Kiran in full dinosaur costume isolated in smalltown England. The video was filmed and directed by the band and can be seenhere.
Continuing about the video Kiran says,“I thought it would be a cool concept but I’d pictured it being an actor or someone else in the dinosaur suit. I’m not sure how they did it but the band somehow convinced me to put on the dino suit and drag myself through a little southwest town with the guys filming me.
It was a super hot day so it was hard work in the onesie, but I just had to keep reminding myself it was better than shooting the video for our single ‘Waltzer’ when I had water poured over my head for the entire thing at early morning sunrise. The ‘Tyrannosaurus Wreck’ video iskind of silly, but that suits the whole song, both kind of make light of a tragedy.”
On their forthcoming albumBlame The Young, October Drift have created an imposing record, full of powerful songs which for the band are their most personal yet. However, these songs are also universal, immediately captivating on a wider level spearheaded by Kiran’s deft inclusive songwriting alongside the band’s infectious riffs, hooks and harmonies that run throughout the new record.
October Drift laid the marker for the new album with the release of the lead single, album opener, and title track, which quickly proved a radio hit being added to the Radio X playlist while also receiving strong support across BBC 6Music. This was followed by ‘Demons’ with that single also proving a hit on those stations as well as receiving strong European and US radio play too.
Their potent music translates into impassioned, jaw-dropping high-energy live performances, which consistently prove to be captivating and hair-raising thrilling events. The same can be expected for their new run of shows later this year as the band unleash the imposing new songs ofBlame The Youngon the world. Tickets are on sale nowhere.
