Filled with intricate melodies, emotive lyrics and an anthemic, upbeat chorus, Never Far From Paradise is sure to be a fan favorite. This is the third song to be heard from the album, The Lost Ones and the final taste ahead of the album’s release on June 14th. Speaking of the track, multi-instrumentalist, singer, producer, and songwriter Florrie said, “I wrote Never Far From Paradise looking back on a difficult period of time in my life, in a way giving advice to the person I was then, reminding them that even in what feel like the darkest times, there’s always a light around the corner. I wanted to capture a feeling of optimism and euphoria in the production, to counteract the more poignant lyrics, and I hope that's what people take away from the track when they listen. It’s my favorite track to play live, there’s something really powerful about singing and drumming this one together!”
The release of Never Far From Paradise is accompanied by a gorgeous video, shot by Archie Campbell and edited by Joe Desantis. The video shows Florrie running through a city and ending up in the idyllic countryside, reaching a place of freedom to reflect the journey within the lyrics. Florrie explains, “I always imagined running to and from something when I was writing this song. Running from the past, from the things or people that hold you back, from the secrets that you tell no-one, and running back to yourself, to a place where you can feel some peace, to somewhere where nobody can find you.” Watch the official video here.
Florrie’s debut album of pearlescent pop, The Lost Ones, comes after a run of independently released singles, including 2019's Grey's Anatomy-soundtracking Borderline. The 12-track album was predominantly written and produced by Florrie and Xenomania founder, Brian Higgins and also sees her collaborate with hit-maker Takura Tendayi (Rihanna, Chase and Status). Speaking of The Lost Ones, she said, “I have been waiting to make my debut album for the last 12 years and it deserved all the time and love I've put into it.”
Florrie has had an exciting year so far and shows no signs of slowing down. To celebrate the album, she has announced two headline shows at New York City’s The Mercury Lounge on June 3rd and The Courtyard Theatre in London on June 20th. Tickets are available here. In addition to the headline shows, Florrie is currently on tour in the US with fellow multi-instrumentalist G Flip, kicking things off in New Orleans yesterday. In June, she heads to the UK to support Girls Aloud on the five London dates of their phenomenal comeback tour at the O2 Arena, having played drums on the band’s 2008 hit, The Promise and co-written their 2012 single Something New.
Florrie has enjoyed the breathtaking highs and endured the devastating lows of the industry’s winding rollercoaster after crashing into the industry in 2010 with her first EP, Introduction. After two more EPs of forward-thinking independent pop that earned her international acclaim, a major label signing, and a challenging period of navigating differing opinions about her artistic direction, she took a step back from music to rebuild and rediscover her love of writing and producing. With a successful songwriting career, you’ve definitely heard her songs. As a member and drummer of songwriting supergroup, Xenomania, Florrie has co-written huge hits for artists such as Kylie Minogue, Rebecca Ferguson, The Saturdays and Pet Shop Boys.
