We chatted with Brian H. Kim about his latest musical project, Creating the Music for Netflix’s Jentry Chau vs The Underworld. From writing the songs and composing before the animation started to getting K-pop's newest idol group, Katseye, before they hit their stage. Blending Cultural Influence and Echo Wu’s motto “Horror, Humor, and Heart”

Brian H. Kim’s score for Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld on Netflix delivers an inventive soundscape that immerses viewers in the supernatural journey of its heroine. With a style he describes as “Korean horror trap,” Kim fuses traditional Chinese and Korean instruments with trap and hip-hop beats, creating a score that reflects the show's cultural and supernatural elements. This unique mix sets a thrilling tone for Jentry’s battle against ancient demons, amplifying each moment of suspense and action with an atmosphere inspired by East Asian horror.

As Executive Music Producer, Kim seamlessly integrates the original songs into the score, with musical motifs that reappear throughout, building thematic continuity. Key action sequences are choreographed to the beat, creating a pulse that aligns with on-screen visuals like flickering lights and dramatic battles, giving the show a music-video-like intensity. Katseye’s main title song, alongside contributions from artists like Japanese-American artist Rei Brown, is woven into the score, with melodies and beats echoing throughout, blending score and song into a cohesive experience that drives the story forward.

Kim’s diverse background in score composition and song production makes him uniquely suited to helm the music for Jentry Chau vs. The World. Known for his work on Star vs. the Forces of Evil, Search Party, and Panic, Kim has consistently pushed creative boundaries, blending genres and creating scores that enhance storytelling. His ability to connect with a wide range of musical styles—from intimate drama to animated action—continues to make his work distinctive, as seen in this new series. The Jentry Chau soundtrack, available on two-disc vinyl, invites fans to experience Kim’s innovative “Korean horror trap” sound in full, showcasing his talent for cultural fusion and genre-bending music.

The soundtrack, which also arrives on December 5, will be a double album featuring original songs and a series score by Brian H. Kim. The link is coming soon….
