#live are we? We checked out Half Alive last night in Detroit
As we said in the title, it’s hard to think of the future after what we went through last night on the “Condition of a Punk” tour. Many of us slept through multiple alarm clock settings and took the day off to recoup from dancing and belting out lyrics word for word. It wasn’t just us, but the nearly sold-out crowd and the group performed nearly everyone’s favorite song, or at least in a medley format for the rest. From fans bringing in small posters to a dedicated group in the front row who brought in tea bags (Just for the song Hot Tea), they were there for a good time.
The opener of the night, Thomas Headon, was the most adorable opener we’ve seen in a hot moment. He gave off a Harry Styles performance with added 2 Minute breaks for the crew. There was even a moment where he had fans ask answer Detroit trivia questions for whatever loose cash he had in his pocket. Our favorite part was the consistency of Eniemen's references throughout the performance to give a hint to the audience he was going to rap the lyrics of 8 Mile. He didn’t, which made it even funnier for us at the time.
As for the main act, we were aware of the white curtain that prevented the fans from seeing Josh perform. This tip came from those dedicated fans we mentioned earlier following them on the tour. Tip Toes was the first song, and the crowd was all hands on deck, belting along to his words. While the curtain was up, he and his dancers performed behind the screen to create an illusion of movement. After the second song, we were finally able to see the whole stage and band.
Many dance and fan interactive moments throughout the show made you feel connected in the moment. One of those moments was when a small white phone appeared on stage only to start ringing. Then, Josh answered and handed the phone to a fan in the audience to answer. Cute, witty banter that the fan made with the person on the phone added to the night's over vibe.

About half•alive:
The music of half•alive breathes, evolves, grows, and changes alongside the lives of the Long Beach trio—Josh Taylor [vocals], Brett Kramer [drums], and J Tyler Johnson [bass]. half•alive officially came to life on the 2017 3 EP, which sparked a palpable buzz on the strength of “The Fall” and “Aawake At Night”. Over the course of the next year, they crafted what became their massive breakout single “still feel.” which has been RIAA certified Gold, rocketed into the Top 10 at Alt Radio and has over 276 million worldwide streams to date. The video organically surpassed the 10 million mark within two months as the song garnered acclaim from NPR’s coveted “All Songs Considered” and more. The trio sold out their formal debut headlining tour in 2019 which included two sold out shows at The Fonda Theatre in LA. The tour also included stops at major music festivals including Lollapalooza, Outside Lands and Bumbershoot. Later that year, the band made their late-night television debut with a very special performance of “still feel.” on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. Check out the incredible and unique performanceHERE. They also performed “RUNAWAY” on The Late Late Show with James Corden.
In August 2019, they released their debut album Now, Not Yet which has amassed over 611 million worldwide streams to date. half•alive was named YouTube’s Artist on the Rise and their live Vevo DSCVR performances of “RUNAWAY” and “arrow” plus their NPR Tiny Desk Concert showcase their incredible creative artistry. NPR called them “…a band with a clear vision and gift for design, not just in the earworms they write, but in their entire presentation, with often-matching outfits and carefully selected color schemes.” In 2020, half•alive released their EP in Florescence, an audio and visual project that included orchestral arrangements of four tracks off their critically acclaimed debut album Now, Not Yet as well as videos for three of the four songs to accompany them. Last year, the band shared their EP Give Me Your Shoulders, Pt. 1 featuring “Move Me” which was most added at Alt Radio around its launch and “What’s Wrong” which has garnered over 23.8 million streams worldwide. The band also performed “What’s Wrong” on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. The band recently released their sophomore albumConditions Of A Punk featuring “Did I Make You Up?” which reached Top 10 at Alt Radio. Earlier this year, they embarked on their UK, Europe and North America ‘Conditions Of A Punk’ headline and are ready to hit the road again this fall for their second leg.
