#risingartist Lighting up the path with Gasoline and Coyote Eyes

Coyote Eyes, the captivating musical project led by singer-songwriter, Jo Eubanks, is set to ignite the music scene with her latest single, "Gasoline." Out today, “Gasoline” delves deep into the profound complexities of contemporary relationships and the impact of social media on our perceptions of love and connection. In a world where fantasy and reality converge, Coyote Eyes fearlessly explores the captivating dichotomy between the idealized personas we create online and the raw, imperfect humanity that lies beneath. Coyote Eyes expands; “The song is very emotionally charged; it starts with this hypnotic, seductive feeling in the verses, then pulls back to a more vulnerable, almost pleading sound in the pre’s, and then drives right into the choruses.”

With "Gasoline," Coyote Eyes paints a vivid musical portrait, inviting listeners to reflect on the disconnect and heightened expectations prevalent in modern dating, especially after the pandemic. “Whenever connections form in isolated environments, things get really intense, really quickly - everything is heightened. Just look at the contestants on dating shows, actors working on location together, even (especially) rehab - there are so many studies about this.” The idea of “Gasoline” was inspired after a long line of experiences where “it seemed like whoever I was seeing at the time had built up some fantasy about me in their own head, then became almost shocked and disappointed to learn that I’m a human being with feelings and flaws. It was almost like I was supposed to enter into the relationship with a gift receipt so that I could be returned if the interior didn’t match the packaging. We’ve become disposable to one another, hence the lyric ‘stepped in my blood and you took it all back’.”

"Gasoline" is a sonic tapestry woven with opposition and contrasting elements, like fire and ice, gasoline, and kerosene. Through its poetic and introspective lyrics, the song chronicles the emotional journey of a woman pursued as a fantasy ideal, only to be abandoned when she reveals her authentic, flawed self. “Gasoline” is a song for everyone who's ever felt that shame, or questioned if something is inherently wrong with them, when in reality as a society we’re just creating a growing disconnect between each other by idealizing versions of one another that aren't actually real. Amidst the tumultuous narrative, "Gasoline" radiates a sense of triumph and determination. It envisions the protagonist embracing her own phoenix-rising moment while the other party remains confined within the box of their projected image. With an irresistible blend of anger, resilience, and determination, Coyote Eyes showcases her unwavering spirit and personal growth. “This song is super important to me because it came to life during a time in my life when I was supposed to visit LA for a week during covid, after living in New York for most of my life, and ended up eventually moving there. It marked the start of a new chapter and a huge turn in my career that I was never expecting” Coyote Eyes concludes.

MORE INFO:

Coyote Eyes is the dark pop alter ego of New York-bred Jo Eubanks, a multidisciplinary artist based in Los Angeles. Known for lush soundscapes, haunting vocals, and eerie piano melodies, the music of Coyote Eyes is, like her, equally tragic and seductive. Coyote Eyes began training to be a classical singer in early childhood, and by 16 she was already capturing label attention for her distinctive, emotionally charged voice which held “the pain of a 30-year-old woman inside a child’s body”. After years of wrestling to harness creative authenticity in a time when nice girls sang nice songs,  the three-time southern debutante shocked both industry and audiences alike when she reemerged as Coyote Eyes in 2018, a powerful and mysterious persona unafraid of delving into the far corners of the human experience.   In traditional lore, the coyote is the one creature that cannot be categorized; it is an enigma, a dichotomy, a living riddle. As such, Coyote Eyes emerged from her fascination with duality in all its forms, which she explores both sonically and thematically. She performs regularly in both New York City and LA at Rockwood Music Hall, Mercury Lounge, The McKittrick Hotel, Viper Room, and with Breaking Sound and Hunnypot Live.  Coyote Eyes is also one half of cinematic grunge duo Lithium x Lace and occult pop duo WTCH, both with 5-time Grammy nom CJ-O (formerly Molly Cherryholmes).
